How Do You Finance Your Project?

I'm interested in hearing some new ideas for getting the money to pay for your Z-car project(s). Maybe you get a car loan or money from mom or dad, or your Aunt Mannie? Are you fortunate enough to have a JOB, or are you filthy rich and can afford anything you want?

You know those kids driving rice-- how doees a teen get $20,000 for custom engine, bodywork and Paint job?

A lot of those teens get their money from their parents, but a lot don't! When you dont really have many living costs, its pretty easy to save up a few G working at woolies over a few years.

As a baby, my first word was "car" - I'm not exaggerating when I say I saved every cent of pocket money since I can remember for my car! That, and a bit from a part time job I had, and my parents paid half.

And then after a bit more than a year I upgraded to the K! :cheeky:

I went halves with my parents for my first car (read POS). It lasted 12 months then I got a loan and got a Zx. paid that, went os, came back with money and found a nice 260. But I'm not a teen anymore.

I agree with the pennies saved when you have no debts, ala at home etc

I guess I got it good then. I am required to live with my mum & dad, but then I only have a huge medical payment, car insurance & such, and a few hobbies to pay for. The rest goes to the Zed, and another savings for a new car- the Escort won't last as long as the Z did ( I assume).

I just have to spend enough $$ NOW to get the Zed fixed up enough to be reliable and safe. Possible?

I didn't get anything. Well, we did have ONE car for all the kids to share, and it was not easy. I have a hard time accepting that some parents are dumb enough or vain enough to give their kid(s) money to spend on something as frivolous as a Honduh customized with a non-economical engine, really gimmicky body panels, radio/amps/speakers that will damage your hearing, a really tacky paint job and enough lights to make your car look like a christmas tree.

well im sixteen and buying all my parts myself. (dad wont help)

i have a small job but doesnt pay that well. so i know how muney goes already.

A few of my mates have the ricers. They have basically saved up the cash to start with and gone from there. As you finish uni you get the better job and it all moves along faster. He started with his mum's ford laser. Swapped to a 1.8 liter engine, then swapped that for a 1.8 litre turbo engine, then upgraded that. He was lucky though. His GF's father is a panel beater and so far she has got him various body kit parts and a nice set of racing seats. This has been over about 3 or 4 years.

My story, I saved a bit of money working for my father at a labourer whilst at uni, then managed to purchase my first car at the start of my second year of uni. A nice metallic blue 240Z for $2000 from a wreckers in Brisbane. Cost me another $500 to get it in the road and it has continued from there until about 18 months ago when it got parked in the garage for a while. It is getting a second chance now and should be back by the end of the month. It has always been a daily driver though, never got hotted up too much. Looked very tough and sounded even tougher with 235's all round and an L28 with a very open 2.5 inch exhaust. It has got a muffler but it is hard to tell sometimes.

I kinda upsized to the Z gradually, I had my first car the landrover, then I bought a 75buck N12 Pulsar, slapped a new box and a lick of paint on it, and sold it for enough to buy my first Z and parts car. Kept the good bits off the parts car, sold the rest and made enough money to get a start on the Z.

Worked killing chickens for a few months, bought the bodykit and a cheap 1600 (now awaiting paint and then being sold off). Its good being a student living at home, apart from the car money, and beer money life is almost free .

You'll make it Bill. That is, as long as you keep her a girlfriend and NOT a 16, 17, 18, 19 or even 20 year old Mother! If that should happen, and don't let it, you can forget about ANY other expensive hobbies!

You could get your gf involved! How many girls can change a tire, let alone a transmission! She might even have sakills you could employ in refurbishing the interior (like upholstering/sewing)

Or just teach her how to wax.:devious:
