Hydrogen fuel Means Trash your Z!

If the Hydrogen fuel cell is implemented, it means you get no more gasoline, so you get to trash your gasoline powered Zed car!

Would you put in an electric motor, assuming it would make your 2500 lb. Zed go any speed at all? You probably wouldn't be able to get it in the highway.

thx.

naw some minor revamping of the engine and you would be on your way there are some alternate fuel cars running around on reguler engines with minor alterations, i do believe Hydrogen is one of them. i saw a hydro powererd 427 cobra(donated by carrel shelby) and its all the same power with just water for emissions

TomoHawk,

Come on boy! Focus! I don't think you need to worry your little heart out about a fuel cell being implemented in the next day or two!!! Remember, the almighty dollar has incredible vetoing power and don't you think the oil companies won't milk every last drop of crude off of this planet for a profit? Relax, get in your Z and go for a drive.........you'll feel better! :D

There's no need to worry until at least 2010. That's when GM has said it will have 1 million hydrogen-powered cars built.

On top of that there will have to be a MAJOR restructuring of this country's petroleum infrastructure to accomodate hydrogen fuel. From a recent report I read, the plan is to have hydrogen fuel stations every 20 miles or so.

Then they will have to start legislation to (outlaw) the use of petroleum fuel, which will take forever, thanks to OPEC and lobbyists supporting the old car owners.

I think it would be safe to say that your Zed will be rusted to dust or recycled into a 280,000,000Z! :cheeky: before you will have to swap your engine, fuel tank and carbs for hydrogen-stuff.

Didn't I shock you tho? LOL

Now that I think of it, you could conceivable design a fuel cell that is PERPETUAL!

the fuel cell takes hydrogen, and combines it with oxygen to make water. Why could you split the water into oxygen and hydrogen, then it iit over again??

theoretecally, of course.

That just takes more energy. There is no free lunch.

Hydrogen is EXPENSIVE to produce, and it requires a lot of energy. There are other fuel cell technologies, such as direct methanol, but the catalyst material required makes a fuel cell much over 1500W prohibitively expensive. The stoichiometric products of combustion of gasoline are H20 and C02, but of course you get some other stuff like CO, HCs, and NOx, too (though less of those byproducts every year).

What this country NEEDS to do to minimize its impact on the environment and our dependency on foreign oil is to quit driving vehicles that are WAY oversized and overweight for normal day-to-day usage. They need to increase CAFE standards and apply them to trucks and SUVs as well as cars. And/or increase the gas tax. The former appeals a lot more to me. The by-product of upping the CAFE will be smaller, lighter-weight, FUN cars! The way things are going, cars just get bigger and heavier every year. DUMB.

I don't want a 3300 lb. Z, I want a 2300 lb Z! (oh yeah, I HAVE one. Yipee!)

I don't want a 3400 lb. 3-series BMW, I want a 2400 lb. 3-series BMW!

yadda yadda yadda....

Cars are too big and heavy, and big, heavy, dumb Americans seem to only want MORE. The only way to get the cars we (well, I anyway) want is through legislation. As much as I hate to say it.

Call/write your congressman today!

Of course all Bush wants us to do is consume MORE:stupid:

Rant over.

Agreed; I'm still patiently watching these guys:

They seem to have solved many of the problems that the big manufacturers couldn't solve with billions in research. I think this would be the perfect solution for a vast majority of travel.

In 50 years I'll either be long gone or in the Guiness Book!:dead:
