Hydrogen fuel Means Trash your Z!

Not tomention all those people who insist on driving 90 MPH , a car that is efficient and 'cleaner' at a lesser speed. I think there is a significan't humber of people doing this- more than people driving the 'dirtier' older cars, like a Zed. Not that a properly-tuned Zed creates a lot of pollution.

Future cars should ve equipped with speed monitors that officials can check at emmisions time. Then you get assessed a fine for being stupid and speeding.

Tomahawk, you ARE kidding, right? The only way we will become a police state is if we ask for it. Seems like we're on our way...

But you ARE kidding, RIGHT?!

Unfortunately, we're a lot closer to what you suggest than you might think. A lot of vehicles have "black boxes" that record things like speed and acceleration (in all 3 axes, I believe) the final 5 seconds before airbag deployment. There's been at least one case where this data was being considered as evidence in a criminal trial. Only a matter of time before they record for the life of the vehicle, and the data fed to a Government Agency Database.

Because the soccermoms will be SCREAMING for it. "The children, won't someone PLEASE think of the children!"

We're screwed.

the reason I said the speed recorders was because SOME people really need help to be better drivers. They have no sense to slow down, drive safely & conserve their fuel, and don't care how much they will pay for gas. The same people complain when they get caught speeding, lose their license, and pay fines, but then go back to the street and do the SAME THING!

The black boxes could be used both ways. You could use it to prove you weren't speeding, or not as much as the police radar said.

Yeah, and the cameras they'll be putting in our homes to monitor our behavior could be used in our defense as well...

Speed in and of itself isn't necessarily dangerous. Speeding tickets are about revenue generation, period. The "Authorities" having access to black box data is very disturbing indeed, but more disturbing is that people seem to be welcoming it! You're really scaring the crap out of me. GPS data will soon follow speed/acceleration data, then it'll be chip implants so the gummint will be able to keep up with our every move.

1984, here we come.

BOGUS!

If oil was running out, then they would NOT be tighening EPA emmissions. They have to tighen the emmissions cause there is so much oil for the forseable future that they feel that they have to mandate the limit.

If you think Hydrogen is an answer to emmisions, that's also as BOGUS as thinking that an electric car is zero emmisions. Truth is, BOTH Hydrogen and Electric require tons of emmisions to creat it to recharge a car or to generate hydrogen and cool it. You just move the emissions to a different place with those 2 options.

I guess that this was all a joke, right?

The point was that people are speeding which uses fuel inefficiently, and getting big, gas-guzzling engines, all of which costs big $$, so they should be fined. They can obviously afford all the extra $$! The money could go for research...

What do black boxes have to do with having to convert your Zed to hydrogen fuel power?

We got a little off-topic.

Nobody has to be fined. No surveillance of the populace is required. Nobody has to be unreasonably detained. All that has to happen is higher CAFE (preferably) and/or higher gas taxes. There is no reason to give the cops more reasons to hassle us.

What, you don't like these tangents we go off on?!

The "hydrogen society" is still a long way off by my estimation. W's initiative on promoting research is just another way to funnel OUR money to giant corporations, without really doing anything to solve the PROBLEM, which can very easily be addressed with existing technology by INCREASING CAFE. Unfortunately, this won't happen because of the US automakers, who would lose MASSIVE market share.

Oh My God!!! Tomo, Are you effing kidding me?

What makes you think that anyone has the right to mandate how someone else spends thier money? If they have the money to buy a huge gas-guzzling pig of a vehicle, they are already paying extra taxes every time they fill up at the pump.

I love your liberal Robin Hood thinking - Tax the wealthy, they have money to spare.

Why don't you think about how those people got all of that money in the first place. By selling a product that people pay for. What do you think that those that produce commodities or goods are going to do if you reduce thier profits??? They'll make up the difference by passing the extra expense on to the consumer.

Think.

I don't have much money and I'm feeling the crunch already. I don't need people that think like you to run my government.

Please tell me that you're just being the Devil's advocate and trying to get a rise out of people.

If the Hydrogen fuel cell is implemented, it means you get no more gasoline, so you get to trash your gasoline powered Zed car!

Would you put in an electric motor, assuming it would make your 2500 lb. Zed go any speed at all? You probably wouldn't be able to get it in the highway.

thx.

If hydrogen comes on-line, no more gas? That's like saying they stopped growing hay when the car was invented. I'm fairly certain people with horses can still find fuel for them.
