Well, this blows...(not really)

Okay...have a few issues with my blower motor.

My problem is that the blower does not turn on when the blower switch is clicked in any direction. The off button works very well. Now...when I tap the blower to a battery, it turns on, and I just replaced the resistance, so those two are ruled out. Now HERE's an idea...I think it's connected wrong. Here's what catches my attention...

1. The big white connectors are a bit silly. The one from the wiring harness has 6 wires going into it, and the one from the blower resistor only has four. What gives? (Am I plugging the wrong two connectors together?)

2. The blower resistance is wired to the top of the blower motor...is it supposed to be like that?

3. What on earth are those two wires (black and red) hanging down on the right side of the picture? The more I think about it, the more I suspect they're the alleged power leads to the blower motor. However, that leaves me clueless as to where the power connectors for the resistance go.

In other words....HELP! Please someone tell me where everything plugs into, and pictures would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, sorry for the huge pic size in the gallery, I don't have Photoshop on this computer. Thanks in advance.

1. The two connectors are correct. The 6 wire side goes to the switch and the 4 goes to the wiring harness if I recall properly. (I may have it backwards, but I also thought it was odd.)

2. Yes. The motor has part of it's wiring directly connected to that resistor, the other wire goes to the wiring harness.

3. Hard to tell from your picture, but they may be the courtesy light wires. All of the wiring to the blower motor goes through the heater blower switch, and not from the right hand side kick panel.

Have you checked the inline fuse on the wiring to the blower motor? That one looks like a radio fuse, but it is a second fuse put in line for the motor / resistance.

Not sure what you mean by this. On my blower motor (the little part on top), there are two wires, red and black. Those are connected to the red and black wires coming off the resistance. The ONLY connector wired into what I would deem the "wiring harness" is the block connector off the resistance. Is this correct?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Just crawled out from the car...I found not one, not two, but THREE more mysteries. Where the stereo would be is just TONS of wires taped off with electrical tape.

1. Found a thick gauge Red wire coming from the blower switch harness...didn't read any voltage with my multimeter though. This wire has a male bullet connector at the end of it.

2. Found that inline fuse on the single blue wire. 10 Amps, wasn't blown.

3. Found a blue wire NEXT to that one that was cut and made into a red wire. It read 12v with the car in "Acc," and the blower switch in any position.

I am so damned close to just breaking things or buying a new harness. I can't do this too many more nights =(

The inline fuse should be behind the radio / HCP not too far from the wiring connections to the heater.

If you look back there there should be 2 inline fuse holders. One is for the radio the other for the heater blower and resistance.

Now, as far as the wiring to the blower motor. Yes both wires APPEAR to go to the resistor, but in fact only the BLACK actually connects directly to the resistor.

The RED wire connects to the wiring harness and then feeds up to the Heater Control Knob.

If you'll note the 4 wires coming out of the Resistor, the black goes to the motor, and the other three go up into the wiring and then to the control knob. The fourth wire is a red and it connects to the red wire from the motor.

Now, on the short wiring harness between the heater control knob and the motor / resistor, you'll note that there are six wires feeding to the knob. The additional two wires are a red and if I recall a blue or black. The red would go to the one you found that looks like it was blue changed to red. The other should connect to another connector or directly to ground. (Sorry, I couldn't find that short harness in my spares box.)

I have the FSM, but I can't seem to find the blower on the wiring diagram. And Enrique, thanks again for your continuing support...I'll go out there tomorrow and try and find the other fuse holder, and perhaps some more wires.

What is that guy's idea of "perfect?" Clean, or actually like a set of new wires? You might get lucky and those things are from a car that was junked after a month, and the wires all managed to survive this long.

If it's from a 71 240Z, then I doubt it will work on a 260 or 280, like the guys says.
