Posted March 3, 200421 yr comment_71027 Hello all, I am currently in the middle of a very simple install of the MSD 6AL ignition system. I have a 72 240, with a 280ZX electronic distributor with E12-80 Ignition module. Does anyone have any tips, or tricks that might make me avoid a headache? wiring schematic? Also where have been the best places to mount the MSD box? I have it temporarily located next to the clutch master cylinder under the acces panel. Thanks for any helpful tips.Dave. March 3, 200421 yr comment_71039 Dave, this is off the subject of your question but we're almost next door neighbors. I'm in Santa Paula. Maybe we could get together and talk about the Z's sometime. March 4, 200421 yr comment_71139 If there's dust in there, then my engine bay must be a compost pile. That's clean! Victor. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10537-msd-6al-240z-install-tips/#findComment-71139 Share on other sites

March 4, 200421 yr comment_71208 I'm still trying to figure out what the little red round cylinder is between the MSD and the unknown silver box.How about a schematic of how this is all wired up and what the components are Greyghost?:classic: Biker Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10537-msd-6al-240z-install-tips/#findComment-71208 Share on other sites
March 5, 200421 yr comment_71231 The box is the tach adapter p/n 8920. This install is on a 72 Z and was required because it has a voltage triggered tach. The round red item is the noise capacitor p/n 8830. It is primarily a voltage safety item for the 6AL. See attachment. March 10, 200421 yr comment_72030 So how does it work? Are you happy with it's performance? I'm trying to figure out whether or not to go with the MSD setup, the Euro distributor, or a 260-280Z distributor.
