Factory 240Z headers

NISMO = Nissan Motorsports. Nissan's Performance Company.

My "How to modify your NISSAN/DATSUN OHC Engine" book, would indicate that yes, Nissan did make competition headers or "factory race headers" for the 240Z.

But unfortunately it doesn't indicate whether they were made early on and subsequently fits later models, or were made later on and as such, fit earlier models.

So I guess my answer didnt really help out at all :D Sorry. :stupid:

Hello halz,

I have a couple of Competition Parts Catalogs listing headers and exhaust systems for the 240Z. These catalogs are fairly early, addressing the L24 engine through 1972.

Datsun USA shows a part number listing "240Z Exhaust System" - a complete muffled dual pipe exhaust system from the engine to the back of the car. 99996-E1045 No photograph is shown.

The Japanese Competition Parts Catalogs "HS30 Sports Options Parts" 12/73, as well as "Fairlady Z, RS30 / HS30 Sports Option Parts" 3/76, lists 14004-E4620 for the headers and 20000-E7276 for the exhaust tube kit. Other parts such as gaskets and hangers are shown and noted, but the descriptions are all in Japanese. Hope this helps. NISMO indeed is the performance / racing arm of Nissan.

I am presently looking at a USA 'Datsun Competition Parts', catalog. It has to be from late 1972 or early 1973 since it only mentions these cars: 240Z, 510/610, 1600/2000, and 1200. I makes no mention of headers but has these two exhaust items:

99996-E1045 240Z Exhaust System

A complete muffled dual pipe exhaust system

from the engine to the back of the car. Will

work on a 1970, 1971, or 1972 240Z with

manual transmission.

99996-E1042 Racing Megaphone

The 240Z exhaust system if designed so the

rearmost section of the exhaust system, which

contains the glass pack type mufflers, can be

easily removed and the megaphone system

installed in its place. This gives a straight-

through unmuffled exhaust system.

All taken verbatim from the catalog.
