HELP ON BUYING 260z?

hello people, yer i had a look at this datsun 260z for sale!!!

heres the add:

Datsun 260Z 2 + 2 1975 manual, 8 months rego, 4 new Pirelli tyres, 240Z carburettors, sports exhaust, Kenwood CD, excellent condition, $3200 negotiable

im gunna have another look at it this sunday, just wondering wot common problems i should look at etc...

First of all... WELCOME TO THE CLUB!

240z carbs... I dont like the sound of that, it might be a bit fuel starved. Sports exhaust... be carful that it isn't a 'fart can' or u wont hear the end of it from some of the members!ROFL

Sounds good. $3200, maybe a bit cheap, remember to look for RUST!

thanks man, yer i already seen it once, theres a fair bit of rust, he said when it rains water gets in, the worst case of rust i could c was above the back rear window!!!! he said that the 240z carbs are good, because the 260z carbs are $^!# and dont last or sum $^!#!???

Keep looking. I've got to believe you can find a car in better shape for the same amount or more money. Don't look at the base price of the car, look at how much you'll have to put into it to get it the way you want it. That's the true cost of the car. The closer the car is initially to what you want, the better off you are in the long run.

Hi Zaka, welcome aboard.

For $3,200 you would want to be getting a car in a structurally sound condition. Main areas to check are the floor (lift the carpet and check) and the chassis rails (look underneath the car, they run through to behind the front seats). Also check the engine bay firewall and battery area for cancer.

Depending on what you want to do to the car will determine what you spend to buy it. If you intend restoring the car make sure the car is complete, most stuff is still available but not everything.

Don't worry about the 240Z carbs, they are a common mod and in some peoples opinion an improvement. My advice would be if the cars rust is non structural and the interior is sound then $3,200 may not be too bad but remeber, 2+2's are more common than 2 seaters and it is a buyers market out there.

Save your money and get a 2 seater.

P.S. have a look at the photos of 2 seaters in my gallery. The red one is my parts car. Cost $500.

The silver one is $2500. underiven since the 1980's, licenced and running.

The problem wiht buying these cars is that they may look good, but the previosu owner may have just bogged up all the rust, and you cant tell what condition thay are in, untill 6 months later when the rust starts to come through again.

Most folks I've met feel the two seater is more desirable for performance purposes and as a collectable. Don't buy the first thing you come across either. There are more out there, and a club may be able to help put you in contact with numerous folks who have zed's to sell.
