Exhaust questions...

gema

Recommended Posts

So I need to acquire both a new full exhaust, and a new set of headers, as both of mine have little holes in them right below the floorboards...smelly. I have a 5/72 240z with the original engine, and my question is as follows. Is there any setup I can use on both my L24 and then transfer to an L28ET when I swap? I'm trying to get everything working fine and smooth/stylish on the car as it is now before I swap in the 5spd and L28ET. On that note, I'm trying to avoid custom work, too...$$$!

I suspect it matters whether you are dealing with square or round port heads as well. I assume that using a round port header on a square port head would not be the best idea.

And Panchovisa is surely right that a turbo won't use a "normal" header.

You cannot buy a Header for a N/A vehicle that will work with a turbo.

If you want an exhaust that will work with the turbo, I would say get at least a 2.5 MANDREL bent exhaust.

Either that or wait till you have the turbo motor and save your cash for a 3 inch install.

3" exhaust on a standard L28ET? Doesn't sound right. Plus wouldnt that be turning into a ricer:stupid: ?Yeh, kinda impossible to have an exhaust header that'll fit a L24 and a L28ET. If the engine swap is a definate thing, just buy a header and the rest from a wrecker/swap meet etc. The cheapest possible way. Even put in a wanted ad in the forum!

On a L238ET, a complete from turbo back 3" exhaust will make up to 20 hp and 18ft lbs of torque with that mod alone on an otherwise stock motor.

Doesnt sound to ricey to me.:finger:

Unlike in the N/A world, a turbo motor needs to breathe freely as possible. Reason for 3" and mandrel bends, so there is no reduction in exhaust flow.

Zmefly is correct. If you have a 3 inch Mandrel bent exhaust it will help the turbo spool up faster since there will be less back pressure. When you boost your engine you have to take on a whole new concept for making power. If I were going to a turbo engine in the future, I'd save my money for the engine swap and all the goodies. Otherwise you'd be throwing your money at something that wouldn't help you out later on. Laters Fatones
