I have one of those corners I have driven hundreds of times: tight 'S' curve, right then left, steep uphill... You probably have one. Not sure why I'm posting it other than to say that that section really (REALLY) makes me appreciate these sweet, forgiving cars. I absolutely hammered through those turns last night, engine screaming, waking locals (hopefully), probably doing 40 around 15 posted (or is it 10? Slow anyways). After exiting to the flat on the top, I am going, "Wow, you shouldn't do that!". But second I am thinking, "What does it take to break this car loose?". I could probably take it a LITTLE faster but there is not much left, she's pulling like a mother. I may be caught in the moment but I fall in love again with this 30 year old horse that won't quit. Could a 30k Honda or 60k Porsche hit that stretch faster? Probably... Certainly. But, damn, this ancient car would be right behind. For those in the Vancouver, Washington area, I am talking about the uphill S off Evergreen highway onto Andresen, the one that overlooks SR14 and the Columbia River.

PS I take the downhill ride like its ice... My brakes aren't exactly, ummm, current. If you got this far, thanks for reading!

yep i know exactly what you mean, when i mad at my car (260z) for costing me more to fix, i take her for a drive through this back road, nice mix of fast and slow curves, taken right its beautiful, engine howling in third , backfiring on lift offs, tires screaching. nothing like it.

About 45 minutes West of San Antonio, is a road called FM 337 that runs between Leakey and Vanderpool. Nice long stretch that starts out fairly tame no matter which end you start at. Semi-straight, simple elevation changes, nice areas to stretch the Z's legs out with. But the mid-section of this road is unbelievable! Nothing but twisties, up and down and over the hills for a good 3-4 miles!! :love: We're talking turns where the signs say 15 or 20 mph and they usually mean it!

I found this road years ago back in my motorcycle days. Took a few of our club members on a Saturday morning cruise through the area recently. Oh what fun it is to have a 350Z trying really hard to keep up with a '71 240z!!! They could only catch me in the straight sections. But everyone had the best time rowing through the gears in their Z's.

I can't think of a better way to spend time driving your car.

There is a corner about five miles from here.Its one of those that doesnt apear to be that sharp. Its only about 45 degrees,but its a long sweeper with reversed banking.

Many peaple have been killed in that corner....just the other day a friend of mine lost his 1974 or 75 porche turbo straight off the side into the woods. He wasnt injured but hes down to eight lives!

Sorry to rain on the parade, folks, but GET A LIFE. Get off the road. Driving like this on public roads is not just illegal, it's......oh, nevermind. Hopefully when Darwin comes knocking--and he will-- someone minding their own business will not be coming the other direction.

Learn where your car 'breaks free' in a parking lot--or better yet--on a skidpad at a driving school. But most importantly: Learn what to do when it does 'break free'. I know you all think you are 'above average' drivers and have perfect control and 'know how to drive', but anyone stupid enough to muse about the properties of car balance as they apply to their favorite local twisty obviously does not.

The one i was talikng about i havent taken it faster then 35. the limit is 45.

A loser is a guy that points this kinda stuff out. ie. you!

We have a life behind the wheel of our cars. Nobody said they where exeptional drivers. But if having fun makes a person a loser then what the hell is wrong with it?

Driving like how? How do you know how I drive on public highways? Have you ever seen me drive so fast that I have to cross over the line into oncoming traffic in a turn? Did I say that I was drivning in the turns any faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit? And trust me, on that section there is now way to sustain 45 mph!

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone reckless driving like passing in a No Passing Zone or driving around people on the shoulder. But you make it sound like we're all criminals because we may have over-stepped the speedlimit a little, no matter how safe we were in doing it! So when traffic on those CA freeways is moving at around 75-80 mph, do you go with the flow or stick to the posted speedlimit?

And yes I know at what point my car "breaks free" and I know what to do about it. That's why I participate in AutoX and high-speed events. But that's me. I'll step down now...

Bill, Kmack, et al. I don't think Steve directed that specifically at you, so you don't need to personally attack him. Besides, his point is correct. He wasn't referring to you but rather to that kind of driving in general. I have had my share of near misses because of some fool not being in full control of his vehicle. Even if you take that corner at 35, if some fool is comming the other way at 70, you are in danger. That was his point.
