Can SU'S match EFI?

Recommended Posts

Hello Zpeople.

I'm a recent 240Z owner, this baby has 40,000 miles on a rebuilt L28 engine with stock SU'S (rounded top) and automatic transmision.

Can it be possible to match the performance of a L28 engine with standard transmision and EFI?

My previuos Z was a '77 2+2 280 with std. tranny EFI, all stock. That car realy kick butt. The things that I don't like is the long body and big bumpers.

Right now the L28 engine with SU'S in my 240z is way behind the performance that I loved of the 77 280z.

What can I do to get better results.

sounds like your SU's are in poor tune condition wise.

The fuel injection is good but it actually looses power over the Twin 240z SU's because it has such small ports etc...

www.ztherapy.com i believe may help you to see what's involved with getting them working well.

The SU is a great carb you just need to know what your doing or have someone who does set them up for you.

I took a 260z for a drive on the weekend that had been set up very well and made me realise that mine are due for a bit of work i think.

:cheeky:

There is a man that runs ported dual su's on a 2.9 storker and runs 12's in the 1/4. What does that tell you.

Now as far as the performance of your car what I would do first is make sure your car is in tune. ie: Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. If you havent upgrade to an electronic ignition.

Make sure your valves are in proper adjustment and make sure that your su's are balanced and in tune.

Also you could do a compression check to see if your motor is tired as well. Do this after your tune up.

Check back with your results and see how the car runs after you have a good tune up done.
