Posted March 16, 200421 yr comment_72773 One simple question for all the electrical gurus: Is it worth it?or Is it better to read up on how to do a ground up rewire with modern connectors, relays, etc? March 16, 200421 yr comment_72792 That depends on you! If you want to trade some dollars for a generic wiring harness-they have a great one. If you want to spend a lot less money, but a lot more time and energy, you could have the best one-one made for your car-that is what I am going to do. New Blade fuses-circuit breakers, all connectors silver soldered, weatherpac connectors, relays on all major current drains, battery relocated into cockpit, harness re-wrapped.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10754-painless-wiring-universal-kit/#findComment-72792 Share on other sites
March 16, 200421 yr comment_72844 Mateo05,If still considering the painless way, I have the painless wiring kit I purchased for my race car three years ago...minus one relay. I decided not to use in order to save weight went with lighter 6 toggle switches instead.$75 for the kit....minus one relay, minus paper work that came with it. Not too difficult to figure out. Be glad to shoot you a Pic if you like.trying to clean out the barndavid Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10754-painless-wiring-universal-kit/#findComment-72844 Share on other sites
April 8, 200421 yr comment_76082 Which kit do you guys use? The 12 connector universal kit? How well does it match up to existing connections, I see it was meant for GM.SuDZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10754-painless-wiring-universal-kit/#findComment-76082 Share on other sites

April 18, 200420 yr comment_77655 There's at least one mistake. Can you find it?Wire sizes: Battery (trunk) +: 2/0Battery (both) -: 4Main + to breaker board: 8Breaker board to switch panel: 10All other wires: 12I also put my AMB transponder on one of the spares through a 2A breaker.steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10754-painless-wiring-universal-kit/#findComment-77655 Share on other sites
April 18, 200420 yr comment_77656 All the relays & stuff on the stock electrical system are there for safety, federal compliance (emmisions?) and whatever convenience features. Obviously, you can simplify things down to just a few circuits( maybe even one circuit), but you lose some functionality. Up to you. April 18, 200420 yr comment_77700 Just how much would you loose? Would this work for a 240 w/ a 280 engine? It might solve my "engine still runs in off" problem. April 19, 200420 yr comment_77702 I think the original word was 'functionality'. If the car is to be driven on the street, then you obviously need to add circuits for a few things other than brake lights. Also, although it looks simple, keep in mind everything there (not including battery, starter, alternator, brake lights, fan or fuel pump) is not cheap. Everything pictured will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $700.steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10754-painless-wiring-universal-kit/#findComment-77702 Share on other sites
