Posted March 18, 200421 yr comment_73167 I have a '71z that I am rejuvenating. I really don't care for the driprails. My friend says that if I grind them off I would ruin the characterof the car. I think it would be an improvement.I would like further input from the Z community. I'll probably never drive in the rain anyway. Has anyone done/seen this.Pics would be greatly appreciatedThanksNotsonewbiePS. I fully anticipate getting flamed by some purists. I don't mind. I would appreciate any input Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10799-style-question-input-requested/ Share on other sites
March 18, 200421 yr comment_73180 i remember a year or so back, reading on hybridZ.org that a few guys have done it.... you need to grind it off bit by bit, and rewelding the part were you took it off bit by bit, so take a bit off weld it up, etc etcalso they said it doesn't cause much trouble in the rain....well thats what i remember, i might be wrong thou, they showed pictures... and i couldn't really tell the differance that much, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10799-style-question-input-requested/#findComment-73180 Share on other sites
March 18, 200421 yr comment_73196 The first race car I made I took off the drip rails. The previous advise is correct, you must leave at least every third spot weld until you weld the gaps back together. I did it for aero reasons, but it looked nice also! March 18, 200421 yr comment_73226 At the 2000 Las Vegas show, I say a guy who had done the drip rail removel.......it looked very good. His Z is black with two white stripes running the length the car. Also, under the hood he has this big picture paint of a women or something....but you would definitely remember it if you saw the car. He had also seamed up around the headlight buckets which also looked very good. Each to his own I say!!!
