ChrisA Posted March 19, 2004 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2004 Okay folks, I got the 73 out of winter storage and drove it today. I primed the oiling system first then fired her up. As I was driving I noticed a puff of smoke out the exhaust in between shifts. Anyone have a guess as to where the oil is getting in at. I would guess a valve stem seal. Havent run a compression check yet. Car was great before put away for winter. All gauges good while running. Could it be a PVC valve issue pulling some weird issue under the valve cover? No smoke while idling or under throttle in any gear, just between shifts. Thanks in advance.
LanceM Posted March 19, 2004 Share #2 Posted March 19, 2004 Valve guide seals would be the likely culpret. During shifts engine vacumum is high, pulling oil past the seals into the combustion chamber.
tanny Posted March 20, 2004 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2004 Probably the stem seals but stuck oil rings might be possible.

ChrisA Posted March 23, 2004 Author Share #5 Posted March 23, 2004 Hey Craig, smoke was light blue. I have driven the car 3 times since and only get the smoke in the morning after she's sat all night. Still think it might be rich? Color Tune says no. sblake01 Posted March 23, 2004 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2004 Blue smoke=oil smoke. Probably valve guides.
