March 21, 200420 yr comment_73564 Make sure every little thing you disconnected to make room to work is reconnected! Sounds like your AFM is not hooked up. :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10850-z-starting-problems/#findComment-73564 Share on other sites

March 21, 200420 yr comment_73648 Could be fuel filter, gas tank, or anywhere inbetween. I would start with a fresh fuel filter to rule it out and run the fuel pressure test that is in the fsm if the problem still exixts. How long did the car sit before you purchased it? March 23, 200420 yr comment_73849 Check to see if you have the gas feed and return hoses on correctly. I've done this before putting it back together at night:stupid: me Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10850-z-starting-problems/#findComment-73849 Share on other sites
March 24, 200420 yr Author comment_74036 went and checked it organ, their right... that would be a funny way to fix the car...anyways does anyone in IL know of a shop that can clean injectors? i think they are working fine, i did the test w. the long screwdriver and they clicked ok.. anything else i should try? p.s. the car has ben sitting for about a year and the lines going into the injectors were completly mealted, like they were disolving in my hands when i got them off Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10850-z-starting-problems/#findComment-74036 Share on other sites
March 24, 200420 yr comment_74045 Originally posted by ALT_255 . . . the car has ben sitting for about a year . . . The reason I asked about that is when I bought my 78 in 1997 it has been sitting for quite a while and the gas tank had to be replaced because of all the sediment that had developed over that period of time. March 24, 200420 yr Author comment_74062 i got a fuel pressure gauge and put it on, and started her up.i have found that if i stick a wrench up the afm to hold the flap open untill the preasure gets to ~36 psi the car starts right up and will idle for a while, ~2 min, while it is idling i can rev the car up and everything, but after a little while it starts to bog down and smoke comes from down by the headers... im going to fill the tank all the way up and see if that helps the pump and if noti guess i will replace the fuel pump and see where that puts me... is this a good course of action? other things to try? March 24, 200420 yr comment_74064 When it starts bogging down, is your fuel pressure dropping? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10850-z-starting-problems/#findComment-74064 Share on other sites
