1978 wierd ignition switch problems

hi again~S~. the good news is that the car will now start and run under its own power. everything works like it should. I ended up replacing the ignition relay above the fuse box, and re-attachintg a ground wire that was dangeling up in that area as well. I also found another ground coming off of the injector harness that was extreamly loose. now onto the next step of getting this poor Z car road worthy again...it needs u-joints BAD..LOL. I want to thank everyone who has helped me on this. it is greatly appreciated.

I'd much rather deal with cantankerous U-joints anyday than trying to find an electrical problem, especially on a 280....:cross-eye

I, too, am glad to have been of help. But the reason I am quoting Kieth is that unless your 78 has been fitted with an after market replacement driveshaft, the u-joints would be the sealed unreplacable type. I went through this on my 78 but I lucked into a driveshaft with good u-joints at the junkyard about 3 years ago. Motorsports Auto sells a replacement driveshaft with replacable u-joints. You can also use a 72-74 driveshaft in a 78 and then you'll have replacable u-joints. Of course, if you mean the half shaft u-joints please disregard my ramblings because they are replacable.

it will soon get polyurethane bushings in all those neat little pain in the back side spots..LOL. as far as u-joints go, i was talking about the ones that go from the center pumpkin to the rear wheels. i know the ones on the propeller shaft (as datsun likes to call it...every other car maker calls it a drive shaft..~shakes head~) are non replaceable.

Holy Cr@p, guys I think i'm in love!!! sweetgrrl do you own your own tools??? This is very cool. The post by the few female members did not (to me) seem that deep into the wrenching. Sounds like you've trouble shot electrical before.

Trained Tech? :devious:
