silv3r0ne Posted March 30, 2004 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2004 i have a 5spd tranny on my 280z. when i bought the car, the pedal for the clutch would hit the floorboard if you pressed it down. so i thought that filling fluid and bleeding the clutch would fix the problem. after cleaning everything out, i filled fluid in the clutch resivoir (spelld that wrong) and went ahead and started bleeding the clutch. after several attempts, it didnt seem like anything got better. while under the car, i was looking at the clutch as my buddy was pressing the pedal, it seems like its missing something(maybe a spring or sometihng)...could that be my problem??? as always, any and ALL insight/help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sblake01 Posted March 30, 2004 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2004 Are you leaking fluid anywhere? Either inside the car behind the clucth pedal or uncerneath the car at the slave cylinder? Your master or slave may need to be rebuilt or replaced. If I remeber correctly, if the master is good and the slave is bad, the slave will leak fluid when you depress the pedal. If the mastter is bad and the slave is good you won't get the leak at the slave but in either case you pedal will go to the floor. The later cars don't have a spring on the slave cylinder. silv3r0ne Posted March 31, 2004 Author Share #4 Posted March 31, 2004 i filled the fluid up last monday. car.s been sitting in my garage the whole time and till today, i see no leaks under the car and the fluid level in the master cylinder is still where i left it at. when i press the clutch pedal down, i feel NO pressure at all. 2ManyZs Posted March 31, 2004 Share #6 Posted March 31, 2004 Sounds like either the master cylinder needs to be replaced, or you have air trapped in the master cylinder. How low was the fluid level before you re-filled it? Does the master cylinder reservoir have a lot of black "crud" in the bottom of the reservoir? If so , did you remove the screen (small needle nose will get it out)and clean it before you filled it with fluid? There is no provision to bleed the master cylinders independantly of the rest of the system, so this is how I do it. Break loose the bleeder on the slave cylinder, fit a plastic hose onto the bleeder and put it in a bottle of some type with a little fluid in the bottom with the end of the hose in the fluid. With your fingers, lightly close the bleeder so that it is barely open and then depress the clutch pedal 4-6 times. By opening the bleeder only slightly like this will put a little "backpressure" in the system and help force any air out of the master cylinder. If you open the bleeder on the slave it will bleed by gravity, but it won't force out any trapped air. Make sure the master cylinder reservoir stays at least half full during this process.
