April 8, 200421 yr comment_75988 The problem with the cold air intake that MSA sells is that it costs 150 bucks! If you can find a muffler shop that does mandrel bends all you have to do is figure out the dimensions, have them bend you a piece of 2 1/2" stainless steel pipe and go to the K&N site and find the appropriate air filter. They have a chart with all the sizes and confrigurations. You'll also have to have a bracket welded on the pipe to hold it in place on the radiator support. October 21, 200519 yr comment_142598 I finally got a chance to get a piece of pipe from a "muffler shop"! You wouldn't believe what I had to go through. The first one told me they don't bend 'tubing for intakes.' The second place said they don't have a bender that big, and the third place wanted to see the original intake tubes! ( thought I had a honda?) I got a piece of 3 inch steel exhaust pipe bent with a 90 degree on one end. The 2 1/2 foot pipe alone weighs about 6 1/2 Lbs. It looks like thick-walled steel, so it's eavy. Is there a better kind of pipe? Like a thin-walled ( and polished) stainless? The other problem with the pipe I got was that when it was bent ( by the only place in town), the bent section had a smaller diameter and the 'bend marks' or shrinkage marks/distorions. So I would NOT recommend going to just any muffler shop to get a pipe for an intake, unless they are more friendly & knowledgeable, and can actually bend a tube without the distortions. I'll go take a look over at Jegs- need some polished fuel line too. That sounds like water pipe, 6.5# for 2.5' !!! The bend marks and shrinkage is because they used a regular bender not a mandrel bender. The Mandrel bender is the key to getting pipe bent without the creases and stuff. The tough part is finding a shop that has one, most just use the usual crush and bend machines. I've been looking at the mandrel bends available through JCW, Jegs, Summit, and the others and cutting and welding my own up using their pieces. They even have some 4" listed in a couple of places and stainless in 2.5". Since I'm thinking of cold air induction for tripple webbers it is going to be a DIY project most of the way anyway...
