Posted April 7, 200420 yr comment_75811 Ok, this is the last dumb question I ask ( I hope). Every article I've read on the R200 swap into a 71 Z say's to get the r200 HALF SHAFTS also.Motorsport Auto tells me that the R180 halfshafts will work fine. Has anybody used the R180 halfshafts on the r200 swap? Will it work? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11133-r200-swap/ Share on other sites
April 7, 200420 yr comment_75812 I used R180 shafts with an R200, worked fine. apparentley the R200 shafts are shorter to compensate for the wider diff, though with the range of movement the R180 shafts have inout wise is enough to work with the R200.i could be wrong but the R200 shafts i think have finer splines that are less prone to breakage? can someone confirm this? April 27, 200420 yr Author comment_78798 Is there a way to tell R200 half shafts from R180 halfshafts just by looking at them(with out splined section)? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11133-r200-swap/#findComment-78798 Share on other sites
May 7, 200420 yr comment_80153 yes all is true the 200 half shafts have a finer spline but i seriosly doubt you will break the r180 ones and origanal r180 half shaft will not fit an r200 because they way they bolt to the diff is different 240 r180 has a plug in style half shaft just like a p510 r160 while the r200 has a flange where the half shafts are bolted on.....hope that helps Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11133-r200-swap/#findComment-80153 Share on other sites

They had the flanges , just be sure to keep the correct shafts on the correct side they are different lingth. May 28, 200420 yr comment_83112 This is also a stupid qestion but what cars does the r200 come in? I was just wondering if my 79' 280zx would have the 180 or the 200? May 28, 200420 yr comment_83117 Just a heads up: http://www.betamotorsports.com/benchracing/index.html Look at the R200 handling issues.I used to think the halfshafts were different on the R200s. Not so sure anymore after measuring mine. Also the 200 side input shafts are held in with a circlip, so you can pop them out of the side of the diff with a prybar. Not sure, but I thought it was the 180's that bolted in. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11133-r200-swap/#findComment-83117 Share on other sites
