Rev-limiters on L28?

I don't know if they still make them but back in the day (circa 1988) I had a rotor that had a built in spring. When the rpms reached about 5500-6000 the spring would compress and cut out. It definately limited the revs. Couldn't tell you who made it or anything.

Tomohawk, I have a generic Mallory rev limiter on my car. It is adjustable. You can see it in picture of my interior in my gallery.

It is calibrated for an 8 cylinder engine, but through trial and error you find the setting your looking for.

I use it now with stock 240 ignition, but it also worked with crank triggered MSD-7 ignition. It's a vintage piece, but I'd try looking at Mallory's web site for more modern version.

I really didn't think one would need a rev limiter on a 280Z. Since it's the thing I know most about right now, I thought I'd look into it as a way to learning more abnout how the engine & electrical stuff works.

So if you would humor me, I would like to discuss how this job would be accomplished without totally rewiring everything- like just adding on a thingy if there is one.

With the engine having 100k+ miles on it or 25 yrs old, I think I would want to lower the red line substantially- like to 5k? Mine sounds smooth, but you never know if it wants to throw itself through the hood! LOL

thx

Tomohawk, The Mallory rev limited I've got is the generic solution you want. It doesn't attach to tach (mine is mechanical), electronic or point ignition is no problem, heck it doesn't even care if your 4,6, or 8 cylinders!

If you're really interested search the Mallory web site(try other ignition mfg also)
