Posted April 8, 200421 yr comment_75977 I've obtained a beautiful example of, unfortunately, a late combination (Lights/wipers) switch. Question. Has anyone ever worked out the wiring/connector differences between the early/late switches. I'm looking at perhaps fabricating a jumper that will enable me to use this switch on my early Z. I really just want to get my headlights working properly again. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11160-combo-switch-modification/ Share on other sites
April 8, 200421 yr comment_75984 I don't know if the late switch will even bolt up (screw up?) in the early cars. It's held on the column by screws that go through the turn signal lever. The late cars have intermittent wipers which run through a relay. Might take some fabrication and a fair bit of electrical expertise to accomplish. April 8, 200421 yr Author comment_75986 The screw points look as though they will fit, and I know about the wiper difference, the thing I'm concerned about is the large connector. I have the the electrical knowledge and will try to source connectors to build a short jumper cable. I think it is doable, just don't want to reinvent the wheel, if someone has already accomplished the same thing. April 8, 200421 yr comment_76004 For what it's worth I have exactly the same issue and will be working on it soon. Let me know if you make any progress and I'll do the same. April 8, 200421 yr Author comment_76065 A while back, someone posted a link to a source with a source for many of the connectors found on our cars. CRS has rendered me unable to recall where that link may be. If someone with better memory does, could you repost it? April 8, 200421 yr comment_76081 Chuck:I think it may have been in one of the "Wiring Harness" threads where there was talk about reproducing the wiring for various S30 Z cars. April 9, 200421 yr Author comment_76214 I found it and it looks as though I will be able to find both types of connectors there. I've got wiring diagrams for my 70 240Z and the 280, although the 280 diagram I have is rather hard to read. I think I'll be able to sort it out in the next few days and then get around to ordering the hard parts.http://store.yahoo.com/eagleday/elparandtool.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11160-combo-switch-modification/#findComment-76214 Share on other sites
April 9, 200421 yr comment_76217 Hi,What kind of headlight problems are you having? Are you sure the combo switch is at fault?Have you tried to locate a direct replacement? They should be available from many used sources.I got one at a junk yard for a 71 for $50.00.The headlight switch assembly is available from Motorsport in CA for $91.00. www.zcarparts.com.I had headlight problems in my 70 and 71. One light would be dim. Turned out to be the fusebox in both cases. The problem is that sometime in 1972 Nissan added an intermittent setting to the wipers. This in turn caused a change in the connectors. I bought this later model combination switch not knowing the difference for $26 on EBay. It's in much better shape than my original and I'd like to use it instead if I can get the connections right. Civ104 obviously has the same issue. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11160-combo-switch-modification/#findComment-76229 Share on other sites
