Geez, it's starting to sound like ZCAR around here. Did they start screening membership or something? Do we need to start? Are we too big? We've got a kid with a Honda trying to sell us photoshopped Eclipses and someone else posting polls based on what he read in the classifieds this morning. Meanwhile, I have a good friend, intelligent, dedicated Z owner and VP of one of the biggest Z clubs in the US sitting at home, not able to post while his memberhship is approved.

I WANT MY 240z.org BACK!!!!!

sorry...

steve

SpudZ, I appreciate your thoughts-and more importantly, your frustration, but as you pointed out, "When it was a small site and known as 240Z.org it was easier to keep track on things." You have the answer and, most probably, the reason for Mikes actions right there. You are frustrated with one person-Step into Mikes shoes, as an admin having to " babysit people" you should have seen most of this before. I don't know the particulars of your situation, and as such, I can't and won't judge it, but I have got to say, I wouldn't swap paint off of my Z over words-no matter what they were.

As for calling Bill and idiot, that was your frustration. Bill is a young and valuable member of this club. He is enthusiastic about Zcars. He is loyal to his friends, and he is frequently keyboard challenged-none of that defines him as an idiot, but two of the four define him as a customer for Zcar parts with friends across the country with similar interests. ___ ____ _____ __ ___ _____ ____ ___ _____ ____ ___ ___?

Hey guys.

My first thread I've read in a few weeks and what a shame. Can't say I've been here to witness anything negative. This community has always been a fantastic resource and more importantly a place where I've made many friends. I'd hate to see this place ruined.

One thing I've noticed Mike is that as soon as you build a decent active member base on an internet forum your management strategy has to change or you will go downhill very fast. What worked for this place a year ago is not enough now (apparently) and a more aggresive approach has to be taken. I've seen it all go to hell a number of times on car based forums.

It's up to everyone to help out though. I wouldn't leave it only up to the mods. You see something that isn't right, make it your responsibility and report it.

Have a happy Easter all.

Thanks Will I needed that.

I dont know about "valuable" but I try LOL.

I know im not the best person to be saying this given my last few posts on this thread. But IMO some peaple need to wake up and realize that this is a car site.Im behind Mike on anythang he does.I could never manage this place on my own the way he does. I think that if we all voted on a certain number of peaple like a site board or somthing. If we could get these peaple together whatching posts and threads it would make Mikes job alot easeir and it wouldnt make all the crap rest on one guys shoulder.

This may not be the best thang but it looked good on paper LOL

I just want to let the "powers that be" who run this website know how glad I am that you're here! This is, IMHO, the best classic Z site in cyberspace. If it weren't for the people who run this site & those who post, I seriously doubt I'd have been able to do half of the repairs I've done on my 260Z. It's got to be tough to put so much time into something that is offered to the public for free; it shows that this is truly a labor of love!

For the steal of a price I'm paying to access the massive amounts of knowledge here, I'm happy that it even exists and whatever the owners/moderators do, you have my gratitude!

One small thing everyone can do is purchase the parts CD. It's well worth it:

http://www.classiczcars.com/modules.php?s=&op=modload&name=Zcar_Microfiche_CD&file=index

Another thing you can do is support the site here:

http://www.classiczcars.com/modules.php?s=&op=modload&name=Zcar_Subscriptions&file=index

I suspect there would be better response to this second option if the amounts were lower or if you could do a one-time amount.

Hello Guys,

I've been an avid viewer of this site for many years. Mainly I stay to the 240Z.org e-mail list. I remember when mike built the site using Microsoft Front page. Vary simple, He ran it off of his DSL line (correct me if I'm wrong). Back then he kept up with Z events and Zcar news. Had a few how-to articles. Thetas when I fell in love with 240z.org. at that point I became a 240Z.org mailing list member.

I'm most happy with the mailing list. For the most part it's so hard for be to keep up with this site. it'll take me about 3-4 hours to read everything new every day. On the list things goes a little bit slower. Allows me to keep up with it. Also, If I have to do some research to make a knowledgeable informed answer the List allows me to do so.

The side goes a bit faster. I just cant keep up with 40-50 replays to each thread. Having said that I'm happy that I'm happy to visit, read what I can then log off. Most of the time I'm on the computer I'm reading my mail and on this site.

I would say the site is about 85-90% Z related. The Mailing list is 99-100% Z related. There's also jokes on the mailing list as the web site.

I would most defiantly say the people who subscribe to the mailing list do not get off subject nor have I ever caught "Flaming" among the members. Every one on the List respects one another.

IF anything member of the site should do is show respect for one another. I don't like young idiots coming in talking about non Datsun or Z related crap. I'll never sow any of those guys and respect. I believe if you don't respect Datsun/Nissan you should be on this site. I'll go as fare to say if your not showing respect to Datsun/Nissan or Classic Zcar Club you should be banned.......

Just some thoughts

-Brandon

Happy Classic Zcar Club member.

I see people complaining and wanting things to be done and want to run this site "theyre" way.

Lest the ones that are really going overboard, you know who you are, want to start your own site then let Mike do his job.

I think this. This is no "asssssssskissing" as Mperdue put it, but this is MIKES site! This is what he has made and this site has grown thanks to his efforts to start this site and take time out of his day to maintain it.

Without Mike starting this site, no one would be here to complain and what not or whatever.

Now that the site has grown, thanks to all that visit and contribute, it has grown even larger. Do a search on "google" for 240Z or datsun sites.

This site is up in the top 10. To me that says a lot. Its also due to the idea and efforts of one man that started this, and then to all that have contributed.

Remember in the end it is Mikes site and he will see fit to direct it in whichever way he does see fit.

If anyone doesnt like where the site is going they can go off and fund theyre own site to make just what they feel it should be.

Me, personally I like it a lot here, lots of good people and lots of laughs and hell, Ive even made a few friends here.

Thats what makes me like this site, that we can all get along, we dont act like the anal cavaties that sometimes make Zcar.com, which used to be a good site, go bad.

Just like was said, keep it all Z.

Enjoy life, live happy and drive your Z.

Mike & 2ManyZ's   Thanks for all you guys do!!!

Can I say that I agree. I use many sites and never really consider all the work that goes into keeping them running. I dont mean to take advantage of anyone. I forget that a person started these sites and not my computer! (I'm nawt a smaht man...but I know what a good site is Jenny!) j/k! Anyways...thanks!!!!!!

Hi guys, thanks for all of the replies about your experiences here! It makes me feel good to see that many of you are happy with the direction we are going and notice the effort it takes.

But, I should probably help you understand that I don't consider this place "MY" site. Yes, all of the bills are paid by me and if it wasn't for the Zcar CD sales and donations, we wouldn't be here today. However, I really consider all of us as owners of this club. Without your contributions of time, knowledge, experience, and love for the Z, this would simply be a static place with nothing more than graphics and text.

I really consider all of you like an extended family. If it was possible to get all of us together in a single room, we'd need to use a convention center!! The diversity of this place is amazing and I certainly love talking to members from other countries about their experiences with the Z. It just keeps amazing me how people find us and the stories keep coming in from around the globe. For instance, I shipped a CD to a guy in Turkey a few months ago. He's probably the only 240z owner in that entire country!! How cool is that?! Some day I'll put together a map showing the locations of our members. You'd love to see it.

Anyway, a website like this can be more difficult to manage as it grows in membership numbers. In order to meet the management needs, we simply need to work better together. So, be sure to let us know if you see a problem that needs to be fixed. By working together on this, we can keep the site going in the direction YOU want..... not what I want. And, let me just say that if it wasn't for my co-administrators and forum moderators, this site would be a lot worse today.

I just thought I'd put my $.02 worth in, I like this site, and the people here. Many have been helpful to me, and I hope that I have been as helpful to others. I haven't noticed much flaming, but then again, I usually just ignore such posts once I see what they are.

People will be people.... no matter where you go, there they are....

I just try to always remember what Peter Rabbit's mother told him, " If you don't have anything nice to say, it's better to say nothing at all...." :)

Mike, thanks for taking the time to make this available to all of us!

Happy Easter!

No Bill,

We CAN have a zero tolerance to flaming. It just depends on everybody to keep the pressure on the people doing the flaming. Depending on what was said, we can request a suspension, or total removal of priviledges. Or the moderator(s) can take action without request. Or the person being flamed can request action. In the legal world, it's called "slander."

The BEST thing to do would be for anyone considering doing any flaming to consider the ouutcome and any penalty.

People are permitted to have an opinion, but they aren't allowed to damage someone's character. And that goes both ways.
