I thought about your question Gav then I consulted the minister for Finance ( the WIFE), our considered responce to your question is probably around +600 and falling rapidly.

I of course used age old Australian pluck theory. Hmmmmm!!

I have noticed a few ads in the trading post where the 240z has been called 'rare' and 'hard to find' and such. Would be interesting to know how many there are around. I see a few around, (240's and 260's) but many are in a rough state. One 240 I know of lives about 400m from the surf and is showing signs of it.

I have to agree many of the Z's I see are fast heading for the scrap heap, it is only the few that get saved by the dedicated Z nuts.

For anyone who is considering sharing information, this is what is needed.

The production information. Body serial number, the data plate engine number the date of production,certification or first registration of your HS30 RS30 or GRS30.

so it will look like

HS30-102665 L24173562

06/73 compliance plate

5 speed Manual

light blue exterior

Off White interior

enkie Mags 7 x 14

aircon, LSD Tockico gas suspension / King springs

good overall condition

Australia NSW SYD Palm Beach date 14/04/04.

One variable is

M for manufacture

C for certification (ADR)

R for first registration.

I found some info on the web some time ago, reportedly official Nissan numbers on the qty of 240/260's imported to Autralia.

You may have already seen them.

1970 = 319 1971 = 894 1972 = 362

1973 = 783 1974 = 442 1974 (2+2) = 599

1975 = 198 1975 (2+2) = 742

1976 = 385 1976 (2+2) = 1615

1977 = 98

So your 600 left puts that at 10% survival rate ?

Well, this is absolutley brilliant. Now an actual number imported has been posted.

How accurate do you think this data is? Is the source reliable?

I would probably agree with the 600, I guess we will never now exactely, however as every week passes one more probably bits the dust [rust]!

Wow, this is an old thread that I found.

I have that Book and the numbers for australia in it are as written, though i've heard that they might not be entirely accurate.

but for the record Aussie Numbers are printed at (this is Export numbers by Nissan):

2seat 2+2

70 = 319 --

71 = 894 --

72 = 362 --

73= 783 --

74 = 442 599

75 = 198 742

76 = 385 1615

77 = 98 990

Sales Figures I have from a moder Motor magazine artical from Jan 1974 state:

110 unit sold in 1970

751 units sold in 1971

553 unit sold in 1972

the Final 73 figure were not available, but at the time of printing the total for 73 was 607 units (with a further 2 months of figures yet to be added to this sum).

So that gives a total of at least 2021 240z sold in Australia (of course left over stock could have been sold in '74)

The number of surviving Zs can be determined but I do not have the access or contacts to do it. Every surviving (and registered) Z in Australia must exist on the state motor authority registration database (eg Vicroads in Victoria, Mainroads in W.A.).

This statement might sound like the Bl..dy obvious but I think its worth someone pointing out that the data (number, type, chassis, colour etc) does exist.

The next step would be getting at the data which is most certainly protected by confidentiality laws. Does anyone have any contacts at their local motor authority?

Several years ago I had the brilliant idea that Vicroads must have this on record.

Their reply from memory was that they could perform searches for existing [& surviving] zeds if I could supply the registration number and approximately $300 per number.

Needless to say, I declined their offer.

Well to go with the confidentiality laws, there are also freedom of information laws.

You are not violating anyones privacy if all the information you get is chassis number, and whether the cars is currently registered, or date of last registration.

This would give a record of the cars that are registered at the moment but what about the ones in storage for 5 + years ?

Surely there are a few of those.

If we can get information such as chassis numbers maybe the lucrative (spelling) PS30 might be able to be found.

As in proved to have been a registered car.:cheeky:
