Posted April 10, 200420 yr comment_76292 Were the Z cars offered with a vinyl top, or was it a dealer option? I came across a 280Z in a salvage yard with a white vinly top and chrome trim across the rear hatch and on the rear quarters. I was wondering if the chrome pieces would be worth picking up. April 10, 200420 yr comment_76299 I believe they were dealer installed options, just like the A/C units were that were installed in the 240's.As far as picking up the chrome, it might not be a bad idea, but, you might end up stuck with them as the number of cars that still are on the road that have the vinyl top are amost as rare as dinosaurs...:cross-eye There have been a couple 240's advertised on Ebay that had the vinyl top, but they are few and far between. April 10, 200420 yr comment_76303 My '73 had a vinyl top at one time , there were holes in the roof where the chrome strip went just above the hatch. There is a '77Z that a lady drives that works at the bank, and it is clean , clean , clean. It has a vinyl top , the first one I have seen up close and in person. The dealers tried to add some things to the cars to buck up the prices since they came with almost everything that was wanted. Tops and mag wheels and the bumper strips on the fenders.
