what years' clutch master & slave cylinder for my 240z(L28 with late 5 speed trans)?

Hi people, I have question about my 72 240z. Yesterady, I realized that my clutch did not engage and found the clutch slave cylinder was leaking. Today, I bought and replaced for the 280zx(79-83) slave cylinder from the NAPA(parts store), and the 280 zx(79-83) master cylinder rebult kit into my old master cylinder.

After I installed master and salve cylinder, leaking fluid from bleeding bolt and the master cylinder(or probably reservoir which I did not close the lid of the reservor while pumping the clutch.

When I compared old slave cylinder which slight different from 1983zx which I bought from the NAPA's slave cylinder I installed today, well almost same except the push lod does not have adjustment nuts and angle of the bleeding bolt and fluid inlet is less shaper.

Anyway I am going to buy a slave cylinder and master cylinder. I need to know what's year's master cylinder and slave cylinder I need to buy my 240z (L28 with late 5 speed '79-'83 transmission with 1986 300zx turbo clutch assembly and 2x2 flywheel which privious owner installed). Despite those set-up, I see the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder seem like original 240z equippment. Well, I have slave cylinder here in my room. I read "11/16 NABCO Japan" and back of the slave cylinder "MH".

I need advice sooo bad.

Though any should work I would go with a 72 MC and slave. Both of the ones in my 81 parts car look close enough to the same to work in my 73. I don't remember when but sometime I think there was a return spring and the clutch fork was different, maybe 72?, and that may require a different slave cylinder or a fork change to run a later one.

Jaynez31, two ways to go. You use all the right stuff from the model year of the tranny i.e. the slave, throw out bearing fork and clutch kit from the tranny. Or the stuff from the engine model year. That's how I have learned to do my swaps. I always try to use the model stuff of the tranny when rplacing hard parts first.

So if i swap in a 280Z trans in my 71 I use the parts from that year trans. For the clutch master I have not had any problems with using the stock one from the model year of the Car itself. Also if your clutch that was installed is the bigger Turbo or 2+2 unit you need to run that flywheel as well. one more thing is the pivot ball inside the bel housing in good condition? :devious:

Yes, my 72 has bigger clutch (according the recipt which privious owner kept a recipt said, clutch assembly installed from '86 300zx turbo and 2x2 flywheel). So, I was speculating the clutch hydroric system also converted to 1980's 280zx along with L28 and 80's 280zx conversion with '86 300zx turbo with 2x2 flywheel. However, yesteraday I downloaded from the "Kragen Auto's" '72 240z's master cylinder and slave cylinder's pages pictures indicate that my '72 z has identical to the pictures from Kragen Auto's.

So, I belive current clutch hydroric system in my 72 z is an original hydrolic system or stock 1972 (?????) with '86 turbo clutch assembly with 2x2 flywheel which connected with 1980 280zx 5 speed trans?????? Is it possable?

This trans and enine swap was performed by the Japanese car club(formaly Z clinic) in Dublin, California about 4 years ago by privious owner. So, I called the Japanese car club, but that number reached a guy in a private residence.
