May 17, 200420 yr comment_81500 Atomrat,Sorry about the late reply, changed ISPs, and missed a few emails(thread updates). Before I sent the '72 dash off, I called and requested a quote. My quote was based on a '72 dash with a typicaly cracked pad, but no other damage. They do want a pad on the dash, and all accessories that fit against (or through) the pad left in. DashRestorations requested pictures of the dash, and the quote was contingent on the condition of the frame/accessories of the dash, and receiving the dash within 60 days. They also sent a form to specify the work they were to do, and the form of payment. I asked questions at length, to the point I was out of them. Every question was answered efficiently and well-that is to say the answers were known before I asked the questions-they had been there before. Very professional, friendly, and customer oriented. If the quality of the dash restoration is as good as the pre-sales customer service, this will be $500 well spent.WillPSI will post some of the "as sent" pictures in my gallery tonight. June 4, 200420 yr comment_84033 Mine had a half cap put on by the original owner..half cap half assed...pardon the expression, but, why he did not put on a full cover prior to the ones that are now out I have no idea..the half caps have a tendency to not fit well on the bottom edge. Im taking it off and thinking of going with the one that is shown here that appears to be a full dash...its a cover but it has to fit better than what is in the car now..on the other hand I am also looking at a paint job that is going to run right at 3500.00 so now what ...possibly an entire new dash...look at it this way ..by the time I am finished my estimated expenses are going to be slightly over 10,000.00 ...so why scrimp with the dash , which is why im thinking of just having a new one intsalled. I also want to change the background on the guages which may require taking the dash out..so why not go on and change to a new one..77 Z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11333-dash-covers-look/?&page=3#findComment-84033 Share on other sites

It's difficult if not impossible to remove the speedo and tach with a half or full cap however because those caps extend into the cutouts in the dash for the guages. June 5, 200420 yr comment_84061 Steve.. so how do you do it ..briefly...as I do not want to damage the clear covers in front of the speedo and tach...the ones that are for fuel etc are easy to access considering I have the console , radio etc out at this time..Thanks77 Z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11333-dash-covers-look/?&page=3#findComment-84061 Share on other sites
June 5, 200420 yr comment_84062 This is how it's done.Loosen the screws (6) that hold the piece between the windshield and dash.Slide the lip of the dash cover under the loosened piece.Push the cap flush to the existing dash. (push the round protrusions into the gauge holes) (they don't go quite all the way to the gauge face). If the fit is good, silicone or use double sided tape into place at the bottom corners by the doors and at the center drop section beside the radio and heater controls. It really is simple to do.You may have to trim some of the protruded pieces into the gauge openings if the cap does not fit flush enough.I had to trim quite a bit around the hazard switch to make it fit.At first fit, the cap kept the hazard switch just a little off of the "Off" position and brake light wouldn't work...kept me busy for weeks!:stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11333-dash-covers-look/?&page=3#findComment-84062 Share on other sites
June 5, 200420 yr comment_84066 I think 77 Z was referring to removing the speedo and tach. They both come out through the front which is why the dash cap gets in the way. Since the dash cap protrudes into the guage face holes, it would have to be removed before you can remove the speedo and tach. Then it's just a matter of unplugging the wiring and speedo cable, removing the fasteners and pushing the tach and speedo out towards the front of the dash. I hope I explained that clearly as the tach and speedo do not come out from behind the dash like the other three guages.
