Hatch Leak

I'm out of ideas!! I have replaced the hatch glass seal, the outter hatch seal and the inner hatch seal, the fresh air vent in the hatch (series 1 car) and yet I STILL have a water leak!!! :mad: :tapemouth

What can I do!?

Where specifically is the water ending up in the hatch?

I would suggest trying to trace the leak better by using a slow running garden hose and start at the bottom edge near the taillights and slowly move up looking for leaks.

Mine has some kind of leak at the right bottom corner ofthe gl;arse on the seal-inner edge. I tried to seal it with some silicone, but I don'y think I got it all. Bofy shop guy says I should remove the glass & replace the seal. I think

After using the hose treatment, I'll apply a little more silicone, and leave the new seal for later.

In my experience, on a series 1 car it is an a swine of a job to get the drain tubes inside the hatch to seal properly. From new they were stuck to the inside of the hatch with some sort of glue/sealant, which goes hard/brittle over the years and might be leaking.

Not an easy job to sort out, especially as you need to remove the plastic hatch grilles which on my car were very difficult to remove without breaking off the mounting prongs.

Of course each case is different, but as someone mentioned, use a garden hose.. get inside the car, and have someone apply the hose while your in it to determine where the leak is.

Before I purchased new seals, I too had leaks in the hatch, these were primarily coming from a poor hatch seal. I purchased a kind of "Seal tape" which is generally used to seal doors and windows in houses from breeze, and make it softer when you close the door. This stuff simply looks like tape that I stuck onto the old hatch seal, and it increased the height of the old rubber so that it provided a tighter fit with the hatch closed down.

Of course when you open the hatch you can see the tape on top of the old rubber, so from an aesthetic viewpoint.. it aint prettty, but it works.

Nothing worse than havin wet carpet... or havin to head for cover when the heavens open up!
