FYI guy's the "how to rebuild your datsun nissan OHC engine" book has the correct picture. That's how I knew what possistion to put it. It was off in the first place because it must have moved one tooth over when I put it in and I didnt double check it.

Hey Matt:

I'm not trying to bug you or anything, but which printing of the How to rebuild Datsun / Nissan OHC Engines do you have?

Mine says copyright 1998 and lists printing 10

I've attached a photo of Page 137 of my book and as you'll see, the picture shows the same orientation as the FSM. I added a RED line to provide a clearer reference for the orientation.

I'm going to do a Tech Article on this issue and if I can confirm a book with the correct photo, I want to be sure to point that out. All of my manuals show the wrong orientation.

If you can post a photo of the page on your book and we can figure a way to tell what version of the book you have, compared to mine; I'd appreciate it. I don't want to confuse the issue in my Article.

i am currently battling this problem and just finding all of this info through a search makes you really appreciate the value of a search tool. What i wanted to add was that when you align the drive shaft hole with the little divot on the oil pump that the fsm describes as the correct setting, the shaft goes into the position as was shown by the picture on the right posted previously. i thought this couldnt be right so of course i moved it a notch ahead and reassembled everything and wa la, nothing worked. well now i know what i did wrong, so as for tomorrow, hopefully i will be able to put even more proof to this. my 1.5c
