looking for a tire expert

I'm looking for some info about tires. I have a car with aluminunm slots. The front tires are 215/70/14 on 6" rims The rear tires are 235/60/14 on 7" rims. Can I mount the 215/70/14's on the 7" rims? Thanks.

Yes, a 205 series tire would be about the smallest you'd want to put on a 7" wide rim. I've had as much as a 225 series on a 7" wide rim, but I thought that was pushing it.

Thanks KMack, Thats the answer I was looking for since I already bought the tires and didn't know the rear rims were wider. The car seems to sit a little low in the rear, I thought it was because of the "60" number being a lower profile, but I guess it depends on the width too.Very confusing. I'm going to go ahead and mount them ,hope they look OK. Thanks again for your reply.

Speaking of tires. Back in the 70's we used to speak of tires in terms of width by 70's were narrow, 60's wider and 50's (being all the rage with muscle cars) were the fattys. Was this really how tires were measured back then? I had "50's" on the rear of my 78 Trans Am and they were very, very wide but fit with the car because of the flares Pontiac had on the T/A.

These are on a 69 Mach1 Mustang, Red with a black hood. This car just came into my possesion through my sister. (I'm a 240Z man at heart)I'm just getting the car into shape to see what it's worth or to enjoy for the summer. It sat a little low in the back, so I thought with 70 series tires it would lift it back up. I do remember the wide Mickey Thompson's from yesteryear, it was "the wider the better" back in the day.

Thank you Carl. Very good site. According to them I can put those tires on rims up to 7.5"
