Olds will always have some nostalgia from me. My first car was an Olds. I bought it about 6 months before I got my licence. It was a 1984 Delta 88 Royale Brougham Coupe. A mouthfull but I loved it.

I went through three trannies in it, all my fault, lets face it I was 16 I went through lots of tires and brakes too :) But eventually had a turbo 350 tranny. Then I went ahead and took out the stock 307 and put in a 350 that was putting down about 300 HP or so. it was my first car and my first chance at really learning anything about cars. It was a testbed for everything automotive I could find and learn.

I will always have great memories of that car, the fun, the engine swap and build with my Dad, the friends, the time I had 13 kids in that car, the smoke shows and coming around corners sideways, the girls, the cops, the 3000 (yeah I know it was crazy), the races, the stories about it that my friends still say "remember that time in the Delta when..."

I am sad to see them go but saw it coming, they havent released anything all that exciting in years. But they will still keep a special place in my memories.

Long live the Delta.

Good riddence to another Dinosaur!

Last night on SPEED TV's "Windtunnel" they were stating that Toyota had Profits of $10 BILLION in the fiscal year that ended in March 04.

GM and FORD combined to earn $4.3 BILLION in the same fiscal year. Less than half of Toyota's profits!

My grandparents swore by Oldsmobile. They always had one. My grandfather used to take the bus to Detroit and drive home with a new one every year. My parents always had Pontiacs.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but do you think--given global automotive trends--Chevy is regretting shutting down all their RWD plants?

simple market sales they weren't selling enough, i have no beef with olds but gm as well as ford needs to take the imports as a whole as more of a threat if they expect to compete in todays car market and i mean truck as well, never owned a gm product mostly toyota nissan and honda with german in between but i find very little need to shop an american built < as they say > product , lack of style quality and desire to excite the consumer will be the noose that tightens the neck of gm, it seems they are 5-7 years behind most in style and form , but just my 2 cents
