Posted April 29, 200420 yr comment_79021 I am parting out a '71 Z car. I am trying to remove the differential without droping the suspension. Every bolt is very rusty and I have broken a couple of bolts in spite of using a methaceteline torch. The car needs to roll to get out of the garage. Right now I have the differential unbolted from the front cross member and the mustache bar but can't get it out. The mount with it's very rusted bolts is still connected.ThanksSteve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11498-differential-removal-71-240/ Share on other sites
April 30, 200420 yr comment_79091 Why are you bothering with the diff.? they are a dime a dozen. If you have the front cross member loose and mustash bar loose , unbolt the half shafts and the diff should be free. you must drop the front cross member to remove the diff.. April 30, 200420 yr Author comment_79110 My friend in New Hampshire can't find one. I have already broken one of the crossmember bolts, inspite of repeated heatings. Need to be able to roll the car out and have it towed, therefore I don't want to have the suspension mounts broken.
