If you are suffering from fuel starvation, yes. Otherwise no. If you have not modified the engine to the point where it needs an upgraded fuel delivery system then bigger injectors will do nothing. And yes you will need to update the engine control module/unit.

However, adding an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator will help smooth performance out a little and it will feel like you have more power on tap.

How would one go about "updating" the ECU. Isn't this a sealed brain or can you add some kind of chip like what alot of the ricers are doing. On the fuel pressure regulator, are you talking about the after market "Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator"? I have that on my 77 280Z and the Z is quite built.

I would think you would have to really open the car up if you're going to add bigger fuel injectors. As it sits in it's stock form, most Z's don't burn all the fuel anyway (so I've been told). Can't we fall into the same catagory as the V-8 people with massive Holly carbs and the engine is just not capable of burning all the fuel that's being dumped into it?

I'm interested in this topic of larger injectors and would like to here more from some of you guys on this.

You would have to go with a stand alone unit like SDS, Haltech, Microtech, and so on and so on.

Bigger injectors will do nothing for a vehicle that doesnt need it. More fuel without more air will only make you run rich and waste gas.

Why may I ask would you want bigger injectors? Is this a turbo car?

Hey Lads,

well i was only going to put bigger injectors in if it was going to give a litte more power....

im not looking for big power as in a turbo or anything (possibly a supercharger when im rich) but a little more poke is all im after...

so really i was just curious weather it would give the engine more grunt and weather i would have to modify the ECU....

but thanks fellas you answered my questions....

I run the stock NA fuel injectors on my 76 280Z.

I also run standalone fuel (Megasquirt) and have a wideband O2...

At 6500RPM, my injector duty cycle is 75% with a healthy 12.8:1 air/fuel ratio.

Conclusion: you probably don't need bigger inectors unless you have forced induction. (I have a large cam, headers, intake, MSA exhaust and I still don't need larger than stock injectors)
