May 4, 200420 yr comment_79489 try loosening the belt and see if it stops. Rub a bar of soap on the V porton of the belt , then start the engine . This is only a temp. fix but some times there is a glaze on the belt and or pullys. If you just replaced the alternator , check on the alignment of the pulleys . If you have the unit a little forward or back that it should be it will cause the belt to make noise plus it will not last vary long. May 4, 200420 yr comment_79498 Also check your fan clutch, it may be locking up (or locked up completely) and it's the fan itself that is making all the noise. May 4, 200420 yr comment_79594 Speaking of Fan Clutches. I think that's what's making the noise on the 240Z. I don't have a whine sound, it's more like a bird churping. Quite embarassing I must say. The more revs the faster the churping. The engine doesn't even have 3500 miles on it yet. If not the fan clutch, what else would make this "bird" noise? May 4, 200420 yr comment_79608 Actually a chirping or squealing would most likely be the belt. Howling is a whole nuther set of possibilities....:devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11552-whining-noise/#findComment-79608 Share on other sites
