Thought it was about time I joined in the forumagain so here it goes. All questions relate to the Series 1 240Z.

1. I can't find any drawings or pictures to show me how the tools fit in the tool boxes. What were the standard tools supplied and were there any additional options that could be specified ?

2. I think a set of spanners were supplied - how many and what are the sizes ? (has anyone got a spare set I could buy please ?)

3. How were the tools held in place inside the boxes ?

There are some good pictures showing how the jack/wheel chocks and tool bag fit in the tool storage areas in Kats' jute material thread. It's quite a long thread but the pictures are worth it:classic: These also show the clips that hold the wheel chocks and jack in place. These clips are very difficult to come by.

As far as I know jack/chocks and tool/jackhandle bag were the only 3 items that go in the storage area, but I may be wrong.

I too suspect that some spanners were included in the tool bag as I have 1 nissan branded spanner that came out of a parts car.

I dont know about our early Zeds but my early Maxama had a tool bag with open end wrenches and a screw driver and a pair of pliers . Sorry I dont know the UK terms for these items. My '73 240 has decals on the doors showing the jack and chocks and how to store them. I dont know if this of any help or not. Gary:classic:

I was quite surprised to find those pages in the parts book I just received. To the best of my knowledge, tools did not come standard with North American delivery cars. My quest to find them begins at once! The hold down straps for the wheel chocks and clip for the jack is particularly difficult and the ones I have seen on eBay usually come with the complete set of jack and tool bag.

Sorry Mike, my R-DRIVE books only go up to 1974.

However, if its any help or consolation, the illustration that applies to the Export "RS30" and "GRS30" is the same as the one I posted.

Don't forget that many of the tools on that illustration were listed as "Option" parts. In my experience, that means that 99.9999% of customers buying a new Z were actually unaware that they even existed! I think the 'full' on-board tool kit is a very rare beast indeed.

And if a customer specified all of those optional tools on one of the earliest cars, then I think they would surely have trouble finding enough places to store them all?

Thanks for all your responses guy's. I presume the tool bag sits loose in the box behind the drivers (LHD) seat then ?

Yes I think it does sit loose behind the seats.

Whilst sorting out some of the manuals I have for my z I came across a pretty scrappy piece of paper that lists the contents of the tool box in a 240z. It doesn't shed any light on the actual contents of the tool bag, and so doesn't actually tell you whether there should be any spanners in the tool bag.

I'll be honest, I don't know for sure whether this comes from a series 1 car or not. Anyone alse seen one of these?

It got mixed up with the docs from my 1972 car and so I didn't know whether it was series 1 or not.
