Posted May 6, 200420 yr comment_79956 Hi all, Well the time has come for me to make a decision on whether to get Triple Webers or Mikuni's?? Any thoughts on performance one versus the other, using a mild cam & headers and other minor performance upgrades. Anyones experience would be helpful! Thanks,Paul Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/ Share on other sites
May 6, 200420 yr comment_79975 I've had webbers for a long time, and like them. I've never had any of the so called adjustment problems that plague others, perhaps it's because I set them and forget them. I think the problems most people have with them is that they tinker with them too much, anyway if I had to do it over again I would still go with Webbers. May 6, 200420 yr comment_79983 Paul,I have Mikunis on my L28. They are 40's because I could not find 44's.A buddy of mine that repairs and races datsuns rejetted and adjusted them. The car runs like a scalded dog.I chose the Mikunis base on his experience as a mechanic. He said that although both brands are capable of producing more hp the Mikunis are simpler .Good luck!Bear Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/#findComment-79983 Share on other sites
May 6, 200420 yr comment_79990 Webers all the way!I'm running triple 45's on my L24 (ported and polished head, mild cam). Gained about 30% more horsepower over the standard engine, and you can really feel it! It revs out very nicely.BUT, I am plagued by the excessive under-bonnet temperature vapourising the fuel! This is only because the inlet manifold (from the carbies) sits too close to the headers, which heat up the inlet manifold. If only it was a cross-flow head!QUESTION: What kind of headers are you "triples" boys using? Do you have the same problem? My headers are non-standard, but I'm not sure what they are exactly. All I know is that the no.1 and no.6 pipes almost touch the underneath of the inlet manifold!(P.S: It's a "TWM" manifold)Thanks for any help you can offer!Cheers Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/#findComment-79990 Share on other sites
May 6, 200420 yr comment_79993 Here's another option for you. I have triple Solex's. 44's. From my understanding though they are the same as Mikuni's. I like them and haven't seemed to have any problems with them. I had them jetted and adjusted. I just need my cam and head-work and they should run real nice.My roadster is running Mikuni's. They seem to be fine on there also.As for the header, it's a MSA 6-1 ceramic coated. I actually have quite a bit of room from the pipes to the bottom of the carbs. May 7, 200420 yr comment_80017 If you are having trouble with vapor lock, have you installed a heat sheild between the manifold and the carbs? If not that will most likely take care of your problem.I fabed one out of sheet alum. and it made a world of difference.I'm also running 6-2-1 headers with the ceramic coating. And SER240Z is correct about the Solex's and the Mikuni's. May 7, 200420 yr comment_80035 Norm Simpers runs SUs and turns 107+ in 12.8 sec on street tires and 92 octane pump gas. Just passing on information. Tripples do look cool though . May 7, 200420 yr Author comment_80049 Thanks guy's, Based on the feedback, it looks like you really can't go wrong! I guess it is all really just a personal preference thing eh? I guess I should say (if it makes any difference) that the car will be a autocross car for the mosrt part...thanks again for th opinions!Paul Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/#findComment-80049 Share on other sites

May 28, 200420 yr comment_83124 Unless you are doing other work to beef up the engine (cam, bigger valve, L28 bottom), an L-24 would be over carburated. You won't get the full potential out of them.I had tripple Webers back in the early 80's. They were hard to dial in properly. Be careful as they tend to leak! I would definitely put a shield between the carbs and the exhaust/headers, to gard against heat and FIRE! Webers did in that car, after 7 years of restoration. Middle carb leaked on the header and roasted the whole car. It shut done Rte 53 in Illinois for an hour. The blase was so intense no-one would pass it. Wish I knew then, what I know now. Personally, you could not give me a set of Webers. Properly built and tuned SU's will get you about the same performance. Get some Z Therapy SU's. they are beautiful, perform well, and one hell of a lot cheaper than Webers.Well, that's my 2 cents worth anyway.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/#findComment-83124 Share on other sites
May 28, 200420 yr comment_83134 I'm with your advice, Marty. Z Therapy SUs are really nice and work great. If you are a stickler for authenticity, Mikuni / Solex is what Datsun sold in the competition catalog.I have never had a fire, personally. But take it from all the guys here - wear a shield. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11599-webers-or-mikunis/#findComment-83134 Share on other sites
