Installing a Deck

the receiver ion my 290Z is connected to the factory plug, but I could only figure out the one wire to the RH speaker. It might be easier to just run speaker wires straight from the receiver, and I think you can get power off the factury plug.

Don't bother with the radio unless you have everything else working first.

It will work in your car.

Firstly, is the hole in the dash large enough to fit the CD player, or do you need to enlarge it to make it fit?

I rewired mine when installing, because the original wires were designed to drive a low powered stereo, and your new one is a high powered CD player with a colour screen, and hence will struggle on the bass notes (turn it up and the screen will dimm with each beat) Run a new thicker wire from somewhere, with an inline fuse. And add a new ground wire, fixed to a clean ground area. Good idea to re-new the speaker wires as well.

Get a mate who knows what he is doing to show you and spend the time doing it right. I skimped timewise on one thing on my last stereo install and now I have to fix it.

Have fun.

I need to cut plastic out, but that doesent matter cause my console is already cracked a bit near the ashtray, ill get a new one when i do an OEM restoration. Actually all the connections have been upgraded, cause the P.O had a stereo i think. I just want to know, what tool do i use to make clean cuts in the plastic? THANKS.

P.S, I just went out to my car and connected the audio power cable into my new deck, and nothing at all happends, does the other plug need to be in also? i still need to change the plug over so it will fit into the pioneer.

a rotary saw(dremel) worked best for me. then file/sand the edges to suit.

Usually on the modern radios, one power wire is for the amps & receiver, the other for clock/memory. Memory wire being always HOT, but low current (1 amp).

read your info papers, it should tell you what you need.

Actually, i dont have information papers with it, my brother got it from a friend because he was getting a new one. Their are 11 wires with the pioneer plug, but only 6 in the original datsun wiring, so i need to firgure out which wires i dont need.

Then try searching the manufacturer's website for the owner's/installation manual. You really need to figure out what all the wires are for FIRST, you can damage your unit by hooking up power to the wrong wire.
