Lets not get into a flame war here...

44014, can you give the date of manufacture as stamped on the compliance place as well as the Chassis number. There is often quite a difference between the manuf. date and the date of first registration...

Build date or import date?

It has long been viewed that the first 240 imports into Oz occured early in the first half of 1970. 004 was documented as an import around the first half of the year [1970].

There is a thread buried somewhere on this site, the discussion was approx, 2 years ago if memory serves me right, with all the relevent information and as much as we all would like to believe that 004 was the oldest surviving zed in the world built and imported into Oz in 69, the reality is that it wasn't.

I would doubt that 160 could claim a build or import date of 69 either.

Was #004 manufactured in 1969? If not, then there is no way that #160 could be.

Apart from all this debate, I'm sure most would agree that #160 with matching numbers is still a desirable car!

Ah, we now now that 004 was SOLD. If you know the new owner then you would be able to request the documentation that the original owners prepared in their quest for information on the origins of 004.

They held the view that is different to your statement, however we also now that the assemble line didn't roll cars out in consequential numbers either. but the difference between 4 & 160 is to great.

Regardless, #160 with matching numbers would be a great accquisition, please promise not to sell it to someone who wants to run Targa Tas...........
