Are you sure we are talking the same #004? The number 4 I am thinking about was restored to factory (or better) condition baci in the late 80's and was reportedly sold around 2001 for AUS$35k!!

It simply didnt need anything but a nice warm spot to park.

well having seen 004 last 2 years ago, I can say it was in pristine condition. The Corbett family restored it to better than ex-factory and a lot of effort was spent searching for all the documentation.

Why anyone would put flares on it is beyond me, let alone strip it and restore it.

and thats sounds a bit wrong considering allen steans( owner of the z car work shop in brisbane ) car whitch was immaculate #180 somthing i think this thing had a 3.1 litre stroker, hollinger gbox ,full coilover billstein coilover setup ,and nismo seats from the 70s and that went for $20000

Different car 44014,

180 was worth that price without doubt. It's doubtful that you could even build that car for that price.

There was 240 dirt rally car down here that sold for 17000 last year and worth every cent. Specialist Zeds aren't cheap. but very few people want a CC zed in Oz either.

But to compare a concours car against a specialist car is like comparing apples and oranges......

now I'm confused after reading all that. I noticed too that you mentioned it was a 69 Z but I was reluctant to mention it was more likely a 70 as I didn't want to get into the argument. I had seen 0004 myself and it was perfect even with the layer of dust on it at the time.

I think you must have the cars confused somewhere along the line.

I'm not having a go at you many Ozzies believe that they have a 69mdl and it's become a standard thing to say the early cars are 69 cars but from what we had discussed a year or so ago it appears that the first 240z into Australia which was test driven by Australia Journalists was a 70mdl.

I know all you wanna do is sell the car however it may be better to advertise as it's number rather than year.

As we are all fairly certain it isn't a 69mdl however it's your call and good luck. :cheeky:

I was always under the impression that were no '1969' Zs. 1969 build dates, yes, but introduced for the 1970 model year.

It might be fun to start another thread on this issue of 1969 or 1970 build "HS30" models, so as not to spoil member 44014's sales effort on his car.

Note: Just before we get off on the wrong foot, it might be worth stating that the thread might very quickly become a philosophical discussion about what constitutes a manufacturing date, and when a 'car' actually becomes a car - instead of a stamped body number and a pile of components........ I suspect we might run into a bit of disagreement about the difference between an S30-series Z car and an HLS30 "240Z". Seems that some people out there are willing to believe that an HLS30 is not part of the S30-series Z car range..........

Another note: The fact that some RHD S30-series Z cars were built at the same time as the first LHD cars is impossible to dispute. In fact, RHD cars sometimes outnumbered LHD cars....... :classic:

I thought the first 15 Z cars produced where "production mules" for testing and what not. A guy in our Z car club has VIN# 16 which is supposedly the first Z sold to the public in the US. I've seen his car and the VIN plate.
