May 12, 200420 yr comment_80782 you didn't specify weather or not you're dealing with the stock radio or not. but to answere your question the best I can: radios require three things to turn on and funtion properly, #1 constant power, this is usually a red or yello wire that gets supplied with a constant 12v, it's only purpose is to keep your radio presets.#2 key switch power (this is most likely the yellow wire you speak of)this wire supplies all the power to your radio while listening and is usually conected through the fuse block to a power source that is only on when the key is in the ON or ACC position. #3 is a body ground (most likely a black wire). I hope this aswered your quesion-nick Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/11652-yellow-power-cable-from-radio-where-does-it-go/#findComment-80782 Share on other sites
May 13, 200420 yr comment_80829 Actually, on some now the constant 12V wire powers the radio, while the wire to the ignition acts as a trigger wire to turn it on and off. It lets you turn the ratio on with out the keys. Mine comes on and off with the ignition, but can be turned on and off manually, with out the ignition on. Good idea as far as I'm concerned. The yellow wire should ge to a constant 12v source.
