Red 240 interior

I am looking for the furthest back panel on the driver's side for my 240. This is the one the hatch strut lower mount hides behind. My strut broke off of its mount, damaging the panel in the process. If anybody has one in good condition, please contact me.

72240Z,

Your Z must be white! My son and I have a '72 240 white with red interior as well. We have also had a tough time finding interior parts. I heard that you can paint the white interior plastic panels red, but I'm not sure how that will match up with the rest of the exsiting red panels. The other thing that is real tough to find are the red rivets for the rear plastic panels.

We also have a '71 240 that we will be restoring after we finish the '72, but it has the common black interior. Good luck and I will look around for you and let you know if we come across the panel you are looking for.

I have never seen a Red 240 Interior in Australia before (I wonder if we got any?)

Remember you can use Vinyl Spray or Paint to colour those hard plastic interior items. My Interior panels were all tan (as my car was originally 113 green Metallic). I used the dye to colour them all black, even the door trim panels. I used some "ready made" cans of vinyl dye to colour them. It has been at least 6 or 7 years since, and it has never scratched or rubbed off. You can even use vinyl or leather softening cream to help maintain the panels later on and it does not effect it.

So you could quite easily purchase said panel in another interior colour, and simply colour it red (I am sure you could find a colour close to factory standards, and if not, you can get it mixed). Of course, for continuity purposes, you would need to colour the rest of the car as well.

Just something to consider, if you cannot source a good red one

Like I said, I've got one and I live in Australia. Car is in Melbourne at the moment, but will be moving up to the Gold Coast soon. The only other red interior I've seen was on a friend's car. He believed that the interior had always been black, but after pulling up the rear panel to do some work, the back was red. As a result, mine is the only one I've seen that has not been overpainted in another colour. His car was originally silver too, I'm not sure which cars were limited to red interiors...anyone?

Initially I didn't like the idea and was seriosuly thinking of painting it black too. Now I'm kinda happy that I've got a car that's a bit different. Changing the carpet to red (from black) made a big difference in the look of the interior. Previously, it was a bit of a mish-mash with red seats/panels and black console/dash/carpet. Now it at least has some sort of common theme......

I've thought about the dye, and may end up having to go that route, but since my interior has faded, I'm thinking I'll have a hard time coming up with a good match, and I'm not into tearing the whole interior out at this time........just having too much fun driving it. The end of your post said you are looking for a center console, Mine is black just like any other. I do have a spare that I picked up a while back, pretty good condition as long as you don't mind a couple of switches just in front of the ashtray. I did find one New Old Stock at the Datsun show in Mt. Shasta last year, but the seller wanted $450 for it.

I went with the dye. When I bought the car the interior was extremely faded - especially the rear struts. In order to try and get a good colour match I pulled up the carpet and cut off a piece of the vinyl that had sat underneath. I then found a place that colour matched vinyl spray and got them to make up a can. After which I sprayed the doors, rear struts and the vinyl under the centre console. It actually came up better than I expected and for about 30 bucks is a lot less than a new interior - plus I have some left over to fix it if anything ever goes wrong.

The seats I did not spray. I figured that any paint would rub off on my back + butt - not a good look. As such I had them retrimmed in red leather. I'm going back to Melbourne to pick up the car in a couple of weeks. I'd be happy to take a picture then if you want.. otherwise there is another guy on here with a silver car and red interior. I think his name is SiLvEr32 or something like that..

Thanks for the offer of the centre console. I'm in Australia and postage might be excessive. That said, if anyone has a NOS console...

Regarding New Centre Console

I am not sure if you are in the NDSOC (Melbourne) Club?

The club has many affiliated members with contacts at Nissan Motor Company, and various parts suppliers. I sourced a brand new centre console for $350 AUD. Pics in gallery

Last month at a club meeting I saw another "brand new" centre console being sold for the same price.

It might be worthwhile having a look at this option.

I've got a white '73 with red interior. I did the interior 100%, every surface with SEM vinyl dye back to the original color. They have custom mixed colors in quarts, etc. that you spray with a regular spray gun. They also sell it in buzz bomb cans, but that limits your color selection substantially. I used Dark Carmine and the color match is outstanding. My car was faded to a putrid orange on the shock cover towers and they now look great. Yes, I painted the seats as well and it's holding up prrfectly after about 4 months of daily use. I live in Northern California as well and it's not unusual for it to get to 115*F in the Summer, so we'll see how it holds up. My money says it looks like it will hold up very well.

Devin, where are you located in Northern California? People have greatly varied opinions of where Northern California actually starts.

NR240- If you can still get a new console from Nissan, grab as many as you can. I work for Nissan as a tech, and the parts guys will go a ways to help me get the right (factory) parts. I tried to get a new console 2 1/2 years ago when I got the car, but it came back NLA, no longer available. That means that as far as Nissan is concerned, no more exist. Some of the larger dealers may have one still in stock.

Driftin John- I am just a little ways south of Eureka. Sounds like you must be in or near Redding from the temps you were listing. Does your Z run hot over there? I took mine over last year for the show in Mt Shasta, and damn near had the temp gauge pegged climbing back over the hill on 299 headed for the Shasta/Trinity county line. Hill probably has a name but I don't know it. The cooling system is in good condition, but the shroud is missing, disappeared somewhere over the years.

I am in Redding and haven't run the car during the very hottest times. I've had the car for a year, but last Summer it was down for a bare metal 100% strip down for a paint job. It has been in the upper 90's within the past month and I didn't have any issues with temp. As I understand it, unless you have air conditioning, a shroud was not part of the program. I've got an air conditioned 280 parts car and plan to pull the shroud and install it on my car if I get into a temperature issue.

The hill you had to go over was Buckhorn Summit. All of the switchback hairpins pulling uphill may have been good cause for overheating. Pretty awsome road on a motorcycle though.
