Why are you looking to buy fender mirrors? I thought you were selling your car. Do you have two Z's?

Regarding the mirrors you desire. I purchased a set from MSA (USA) for $50.00. They are OK but not of the highest quality.........nothing like the ones that came on an original Cobra or such. Anyway, I like them enough that I installed them on my 240 at the door locations. They would probably function better up on the fenders, as you prefer, as opposed to on the doors as I have done. Reason...........on the door location, the passenger side (RH) does not have enough adjustability to see straight down the right side. That's Ok though, as they have alot of HRC (High Rate of Coolness). I'm happy with them. Just thought you'd like to know.

I have these same mirrors and recently fixed the above problem using a dremel tool with a grinding bit. You basically need to cut a small notch in the metal (which will be hidden) that allows for more movement of the mirror against the center threaded rod. I can post a picture if you like but the fix is fairly obvious when you take the mirror apart.

Thanks for the input regarding a fix for the limited mirror adjustability. I had the same thoughts as you about how to extend the adjustable limit.........just haven't got around to addressing it yet! I was wondering however, do you think by doing this mod it would expose or show a gap or an unchromed area when at it's extreme adjustment? With the way I have it currently, my view is about 15 to 20 degrees out from straight back..........good view of cars approaching in the adjacent lane anyway!!! It's actually Ok because the rear view, straight back, is addressed with the reaview mirror in the interior. Just one of those little ism's.

The notch is in the chromed dish-shaped ring that holds the mirror itself. I don't think there's anything un-chromed that could show. If you make the notch too deep (and subsquently use it to adjust the mirror further in) the only thing that would happen is you'd start seeing a gap on the outside (opposite from the notch).

I have some experiences with bullet mirrors.

First of all, don't buy chrome on alloy.

I did, and the chrome pitted with-in 12 months.

Chrome on brass may be better, but why not go all the way, and buy stainless steel ones.

I just bought a pair of UK made "TEX Torpedo" stainless mirrors, for only AU$65 each from "MIDEL" in Sydney, australia.

Only problem is that the glass is flat ,and not convex.

I have convex in my current mirrors, and am loving it.

Planning to either swap or replace the glass, to end up with convex glass.

excellent post thanks Michael, i was almost disheartend until I saw the bullet ones at that UK place Ref # CME16 about halfway down and there so cheap also.

I will more than likely be getting a set soon. :classic:

Not sure if i will mount them on the fenders as the door will have holes left but maybe further down the track

in mint condition.
