How much did you pay for your Z?

Just out of curiosity, I thought it might be interesting to know how much Z cars are selling for these days.

Maybe you guys could list what model it was, the condition it was in and where you bought it. Also, what do you use it for? Daily driver, garage queen or weekend racer?

The '73 I have had 20 years, I paid $2,200 for 290000 miles ago! it was in great mechanical condition, new AC, new paint, and needed a new console, seats, a dash cover, to be complete.

The '72 I just got was for sale for $800-I traded for it.

It is almost"all :stupid: original" (Tripple Webbers and Canon intake excluded). It needs all kinds of things(none of which the '73 needed). Every part I was going to replace(except the block) and upgrade is actually worn out!

Other than the holes in the floors, it was just what I wanted-an essentially strait car that actually needed upgrades to survive!

traded my 77 GMC 4x4 with my brother about 5 years ago. It was all original and in pretty darn good shape considering the age. Since then it has gone through a lot. r-200, C.V. axle and rear disk upgrade. Toyota 4 piston calipers up front, Cross drilled rotors on all 4 corners. Poly bushings in the rear(still need to do the front). Large sway bars(removed the rear cause didn't work with the C.V. axles). Converted it to a V-8 and T-5 beginning of 2003. Put Autometer Phantom gauges in it last X-mas and now I am slowly working on the body so I can get it back to the original green colr(P.O. panted it bronze. UGLY)

First z was a 72 bought in 87 for 2600 sold for 3900 , put in probably easily 6-7 grand in it , yes not a good investment , had a 71 in 94 bought for 550 and sold for 1200 decided it wasn't for me , too much body work but made some $ on it , last one and present <oct 2003 > i saw in the paper for 900 went and saw it offered him 450 and waited and sure enough he called , its in pretty good condition but i stripped everything that might be bad and replaced or rebuilt it, have most of a 54 and e31 waiting to go into it , easily have 1-2 g in it and untold amount of time , my brother picked up his 260 in a upstairs garage in a downtown building for 500 with no tranny but a truck load of parts , now runs like a raped ape as he so eloquiently puts it , but alot of time and good family time working on it family bonding to hell with monopoly buy a z and get the family together to cuss and swear at 30 year old bolts that don't budge

Sorry Steve. Figured it had been discussed before, but was just trying to make some discussion.

It sounds like most of you guys have gotten pretty good deals on Z's, but in exchange for having it be a project.

Aloha Joel,

Got my 73 in 1995, body in great shape, gave $2500. Have invested much more in improvements. Stereo, wheels and tires, suspension rebuild(Tokicos,poly bushings), Z therapy carbs, carpet, headlight covers, MSD ignition and plug wires, strut tower bars, LED's in all gauges, short shifter, 3 row radiator.

Plus I have a garage full of stuff I havent installed yet!!!!!

My first Z was a first gen 71 for my senior year in high school for $1000 back in 85. This was a teen car to do nothing but crusing and driving it hard. The rust eventualy killed it but it had a rebuilt engine and wheels. My mom sold it after I join the service for $10, just to toll it away. Needed that engine when I purshased my second Z a 5/70 for $1400 in 89 and still have it till now. Around $20000 later the daily driver is still going strong.

The Red 77 280Z was purchased for $7,500.00 back in 1998. The car was in excellent shape. It was just previously restored! We won't even discuss how much we've invested into the car to bring it to it's current state. :tapemouth

The Yellow 72 240Z is a Factory Restored Z so you all know how much that one cost. It was purchased in 2000.

My 1970 240Z was free.

My dad bought it in the early 80's. He had it repainted, new glass molding and the seats recovered. He drove it for a few years. It currently has 95,000 miles. Except for the paint and seat covers it's bone stock and rust free. He eventually got remarried (and divorced, again) during which time the Z was parked in the garage and forgotten.

About 1-1/2 years ago he asked me if I'd be interested in taking the Z off his hands and of course I said YES!!!:classic:

I bought my '72' in 1977. I was the second owner. The guy wanted $2000. It had a bad dif. mount and he came down to $1500. The dealer had told him it was a bad dif. and wanted

$500 for repairs.

It's been what I call gatorade yellow, the orig color. It was white for a number of years , then red. Now it's nissan champagne.

Both of my kids fight about who gets the car when I die.

I think I'll take it with me. It's never let me down.

$3,500 in 1984. Daily driver in reasonable shape. She is now a garage queen and if I have less than $20,000 in the restoration, I will be surprised.
