You guys also have to note that the baffles were both offered and not offered from the factory. I am not sure where it is, but in Alan's gallery there are some photos of the lower valences of FACTORY ZG's without the baffles. I am not trying to be picky, just telling you guys what I know. Which is very little.

I cant claim that webpage, its all Alan's doing, but he seems to have some amazing trick bits kicking around the garage. The baffling seems to be depending on wether or not its an early or a late car, maybe something to do with airconditioning etc, you can also see the undertray on the "fake" does not extend as far back.

That's not supposed to be a 'web-page' as such. Its just a free place to store photos online and link to them - which can be useful sometimes. I don't normally send people there without a reason to do so. I don't think of it as my Homepage or anything like that....

Yes - the baffles / ducts in the lower pan of the G Nose were an attempt to channel air more efficiently for the air conditioning systems. The first run of HS30-H's never had them ( my car is one of these ) so you could think of them as early / late - or 'Series 1' / 'Series 2' if you like. The baffles / ducts were made from FRP ( not aluminium or steel, as some people seem to think ) and were attached to the lower pan by nuts and bolts.

Here are a couple of pics of a real ZG in Japan, in a rare state of undress. They are useful for showing the shape / form of the genuine lower panel as it is when attached to the car:

Alan, thanks for the photos, they are great. Did many of the aftermarket G-noses have the baffles. So if I were to look under the skirt of one of these cars, a later car would have the baffles no? How many 240ZG's were made any how? I have many more questions, but I am going to restrain myself. Thanks again.

Your pictures are very helpful, Alan, for understanding how that all goes together on the chassis. Thanks. The car I pointed to a couple of threads ago seemed to have the FRP headlight extensions and I was wondering about the rest of the panels. The ducting is a good illustration of how Nissan / Datsun were attempting to control the air flow at the front of the car and reduce lift amongst other issues. Of course aerodynamics have come a long way, but this is characteristic design thought of that period.

Why is the American marketing version of the ZG painted yellow? You know, the ZG on all the Datsun posters and advertisements you see around. Remember the video of the kid chasing his baseball? The ZG is painted bright yellow. Trivia Enjoy the ride.

You mean Mr K's car?

That car was / is NOT a ZG. Please don't call it the "American marketing version of the ZG". I have no idea - other than the fact that it was once Mr. K's personal transport - why NMC USA chose to use it for promotional purposes.

As far as I understand it, the car was a standard HLS30U and some other parts were added privately, including wire wheels.

Whether the front end parts were genuine Factory parts or not - putting them onto a car does not automatically make that car a ZG.

Only Nissan could make a genuine ZG. If a car left the Factory as a genuine ZG then - theoretically - you could take all the ZG-specific parts off it, and it would STILL be a ZG. That process does not work in reverse.

U in HLS30U = USA.

Or at least USA and Canada.

Or North America....... You've not seen that before? Nissan had a code for all our cars. Sometimes more than one.
