Decal preservation

Ed

Recommended Posts

The time has come for me to strip and re-paint the my brake booster (the one on the firewall). I was wondering what to do about the decal. If I remove it with a heat gun will it go back with no problems? I don't want to mask it off cuz that just looks tacky. Has anyone removed a decal and reapplied it? Any suggestions?

Thanks

I guess I am tacky . I dont think you can remove it and save it. I carefully masked it off and you must look vary close to see that it was done . I would like to be able to save the ones on the hood and air cleaner but I am afraid there going away. How cold is it ?? LOL Have a good one, Gary:classic:

I don't think you can get the label off the Master Vac and reinstall without it looking pretty bad. I'd do a very careful masking and paint (I've done it before, like Gary); if you are careful it doesn't have to look bad. Time + effort = success

Another thought is to contact Banzai Motorwerks in Maryland. They sell many of the stickers and decals. Maybe they have this one.

I need to do my brake booster soon and I was intending to try and steam the decal off using steam from a domestic kettle. This has worked for me on a few other non-car items, without damaging the decals.

Hope it helps

Wick Humble manages to pull this operation off in his book/resto with what he describes as "repeated maskings".

When is Wick going to sign up on this message board ;>

Does anyone know a source for these decals?

Joseph

Apart from studying cars that have been restored by knowledgable people, no, none that I know of.

The brake vac decal can be seen in a thread recently started by Kats regarding manufacturers names for the z car.

Joseph
