I own a European Spec 260z registered in 1978, and i am trying to return it to its original spec.

Does anyone know if a EGR system and crossover bar was included with the european spec 260z in 1978, or was this just in the US inorder to meet the emission laws?

EGR was standard on 78's out here [Oz], cross over bar, do you mean rear sway bar, if so then it was standard equipement as well.

Actually its the balance bar which connects the two intake manifolds. I am guessing if you have EGR then you will also have this bar. Thanks for the info

When you say "European Spec" do you mean UK-market ( RHD ) or LHD continental European market?

You say that you are trying to return your car to original spec, so I presume that you do not currently have the EGR stuff installed?

What's the VIN, and can you provide any other data? If its a UK-market RS30 then the spec details can be very hard to pin down accurately for each individual car. I have seen all sorts of confusing anomalies on these cars.

Yes sorry UK RHD, it currently has weber carbs on it with no EGR, and i have bought a su intake set, including manifold, balance bar/EGR and air box.

But the balance bar and egr system need a lot or work to get running because they have been sealed up by the previous owner.

I think that the bar is actually called the Balance Tube, might be wrong but it's not life threatening.

I gather you will be restoring it with top carb's. There is a good thread on them on this site. Work carefully and you will have a responsive motor.
