When purging gas tank:

Recommended Posts

That water would (in most "civilized places" be considered a hazardous waste and would be transported to and disposed of at your local hazardous waste facility.

On the other hand, many folks simply take the tank to a raditor shop and have it boiled out instead of messing with it at home.

There are some people who do as you stated, and just let the water go anywhere it feels like going. Without care for the environmental consequences.

Choices, choices, choices............................

I drained my tank with a drill type of pump then took it to a radiator shop and resurfaced and sealed it for 165 , most fire departments will take the old gas for ya , I don't recommend cleaning out your tank with water , rust will form quickly without gas in there and especially with extra water being put in there, good luck :geek:

That is basically what I did, except that I had about 1 gallon of gas and crap in the tank when i dropped it, so I dumped it in a couple of bleach bottles and took it to our County Hazardous Waste site. The Firefighters around here no longer accept stuff like that. The radiator shop sand blasted out the rust, did a few minor repairs, pressure tested it to 10 lbs. and then sealed it. 3 year full warranty, $175.
