Wheel Stud Removal?

Recommended Posts

to replace some wheel studs that have bad threads Do you just bang them out with a Hammer or is there a better way?? I know that once I have them out you can just put the new ones in and tighten them with an impact gun, but I just did not want to mess up the part that are connected to it.

You should try to use a brass drift or a punch. The last thing you want to do is "mushroom" the end of the stud and have it get wedged into the hub. I have seen some people use a large 2 leg puller to pop them loose, but if the old hammer and punch works go with that.

  • 1 year later...

2 many,

so there is enough room in back to knock the old stud out and install the new one without disassembling anything.

This is what im assuming... on the back wheel drum i will have to remove the brake drum knock them out of the other thing...then as described above then pull the new one on by tightening the lug bolt, stack of washers might help

on the front after removing the front tire should be able to do it without removing anything else

ok set me straight... thanks:alien:

"I know that u knock them from front and they come out from the inside (back)...i'm just not sure if there is enough room... anyone?"

Hahahah after looking at mine last night I realized that was a dumb question!!! NOt the first and surely won't be the last!

Oh duh now I see your point - wheels falling off......

Sorry 72, I have mine too far disassembled to answer your question.
