Changing seat colors?

I am curious about changing the color of seats. The reason i ask is there is a fellow nearby my place who is selling 240z seat skins only problem is they are white and not black. I know I could use Vinyl spray but does this stuff come off and i know it can run also so you have to be carefull when spraying.

He wants ~$180 for the set of 2 which is prob reasonable anyone know of a professional process for changing the color or is it just not worth while?

Oh and ideas on what it would cost to get them colored properly would be good.

My 73 240z had a white interior it was pretty cool actually and I believe quite rare too.

I remember reading that a red exterior and white interior was produced just not that many.

My (USA) 1972 (11/71) 240Z has a white interior. Paint is 115 (I think) Metalic Blue

For $180 you should be able to buy new covers from just about any of our vendors. So instead of buying WHITE to then have to paint it, why not contact Too Intense Restoration, Chloe may have recovers, or MSA / V / B .

Yes I know what your saying but that's $170 in US dollars at 2 intense restoration.

Not to mention shipping then import tax here in Australia .

The only reason I'm considering this.

Gav, aren't the boys at VicZCar doing an order to the US, with the combined shipping cost and duties being split up. I've used the vinyl spray/dye on a lot of things with great success but i've never done seats. I wonder if one of the companies that does dash reskinning would be the place to go for the colour change. They spray it on with a spray gun as opposed to pressure pack cans.

DashRestorations has a special paint mixed up. It is supposed to become one with the painted surface, and not remain a seporatable coating, They are sending me some with my dash to make sure all of the black interior parts in the car match-if your other plans don't hold water, you might give them a call and see if they will sell you a batch!

I have had very good luck in coloring seats. I found a perfect set of tan seats and I used a vinyl paint. You have to prep the seats with vinyl prep and then paint. Once painted I left them in the sun all day. Had the car for four years after that and never had a problem. Try a company called Eastwood or if you have a Tri-cities Paint Co. around you.
