Andrew:

What is the name cast on the side of the MC? I couldn't read it in the picture, but it looked like it had a "S" as the first letter. The one on my car was made by Tokico (I may have spelled that wrong) and it did come with a black cap but I was able to switch my original cap to it and it fit fine.

I think its Sanyco (don't have it here with me so I can't check for sure)

Hi Andrew:

Yes, I think you are right. I just saved the picture to my computer and magnified it and it does appear to say Sanyco. I haven't seen that name before, but the cylinder does look like the right one for 240Z. I'll have to keep and eye on the auction price. Spares are nice to have, at the right price. :)

Thanks,

Carl

So, this is a part that I haven't researched differences in. Are the MCs different between the 240 and 280Zs? I didn't think they were. Last winter I bought a new MC for the 280 from my local Nissan dealer. Pricy, but I needed it fast.

As far as I know the earlier 240z's had a clutch master cylinder where the reservoir was at the very front of the cylinder. Later 240z's and possibly 260/280 (I'm not sure about these) had a longer master cylinder and a reservoir further back towards the bulkhead.

I have only ever seen one of the genuine early style master cylinders for sale prior to the one I have flagged up, and that was a secondhand one from Bob Zola that went on a buy it now soon after it was listed.

This is all the information I have. I'd be glad to hear from anyone who can confirm or correct me.

regards

Andrew

You appear to be correct. The pic attached shows the MC (circled in the background) on my '70 240Z. Reservoir at the very end of the cylinder. I just went out to my 280 and looked at what I bought from Nissan a few months ago, and it has the reservoir about halfway down the cylinder.

Learned something new today!

Thanks.
