Bill, if you haven't noticed any signs of damage, just drain the oil, change the filter, and refill it with the correct oil. I used to run ATF in the transmission of my motorcycles because I read somewhere that it makes them shift smoother. Not that that applies to your engine story.

Don't know if anyone has done this but years ago I would put a quart of Marvel Mystery oil in the crankcase and run for about 100 miles before I changed oil. It use to clean all the gunk and mung from the engine and inside valve cover. Don't know if this acceptable in today's engines but it worked in my "74 Olds Omega

Even though it sounds like a good idea to clean your engine, you have to be careful. If your engine has alot of deposits from using cheap oils then you might have alot of build up. Then using a high detergent oil will break free these deposits. Then you have pieces of crud flowing around your engine taking a chance of siezing your oil pump or cloging oil passages.
