Todays stupid question ;)

Where is a good place on the front end of a Z to jack it up? I can't get to the bottom starter bolt from the top so figured if I jacked it up it'd be easier to get to. HELP!!!

If you have a floor jack why dont yo try the fram rails?

They are rusted. Not badly rusted but rusted none the less. I just wasn't sure if that was the safest place to try the floor jack.

Your talking to the wrong guy man i have no clue. But if the frame will still hold the car then it should work. (just buy life insurence firstLOL )

No life ins but I have REALLY good health ins and a recent tetnus shot :tapemouth . The car won that round too!

I'll give it a try, all the other bolts are loosen it's just that one dreaded bolt!

Put stands ubder it first. And scoch the tires

I knew at some point stands would be mentioned. I have ramps but no stands and the ramps don't give me enough clearance. I'm not afraid of my car but don't want to get crushed either trying to loosen that bolt. Then again it's parked facing out so if I get it jackeh high enough I might be able to place the ramps let her down and just shimmy under it from the front. Is there anything on the front of the car...any metal strong enough for me to jack it up?

if u got a connection with a garage mechanic ask to use the lift for 5 minutes and slip him $10. safe and easy, that's if u can drive it there.

Jack it up unfer the frontcross member(from the bottom, ahead of the oil pan, after the radiator support-the front suspension is located by it!) If my explanation isn't clear, let me know, and I will post a picture-don't get under the car with out stands-cinderblocks do not count!!!!

I agree, Jack it up at the front crossmember, right in the middle of the car just in front of the oil pan. If you look there is what appears to be a small skid plate about a 5 inch square. The frame rails are not a good idea because it is basically a single layer of metal. If you were to jack it up by the frame rails your rails would end up looking like a piece of aluminium foil that went through the washing machine. Even when you put the jack stands under there place them where the metal is the thickest, right behind the T/C rod. Or put a piece of wood between the jack stand and the rail.

With the proper extension (about 8"), socket and ratchet, you can get that bolt from the top. I have never had to get under the car to remove the starter on any L-engined car I've ever owned.
